2Face Idibia Issues Public Apology Over Controversial Comment on Men and Commitment

 Entertainment Desk

Legendary Nigerian singer 2Face Idibia, also known as 2Baba, has issued a heartfelt public apology following backlash over his recent comments on men and sexual commitment. The music icon took to his Instagram page on Wednesday morning to express regret over his words, admitting that he “messed up” in how he expressed himself during a controversial interview.

The controversy began when 2Face appeared on comedian Nedu Wazobia’s popular podcast, where he boldly stated that “men aren’t built to be sexually committed to a woman.” The remark immediately ignited outrage across social media, with many netizens calling the statement “irresponsible,” “misogynistic,” and “unworthy of a role model.”

Facing intense backlash, the 49-year-old Afrobeat pioneer took to video to address the issue directly. In the emotional clip shared to his Instagram page, 2Face apologized to the public, his fans, and most significantly, to his wife, Natasha Idibia.

“I know I have fucked up with what I have said,” he began, visibly remorseful. “I really, really fucked up the way I said it. I’m going to pay with a heavy price. I’m going to face the consequences.”

The singer, who is revered for classics like African Queen and Implication, said the intention behind the controversial comment was to spark honest conversation — but admitted he expressed himself poorly.

“I said it because I want people to understand me, but maybe I didn’t say it appropriately. I own up to my mistake,” he said. “But one thing I know for sure is I’m sorry to my wife Natasha. Calling me a legend is an honor, but this my talk is quite unlegendly.”

2Face went on to express how the overwhelming feedback from fans and critics alike has made him more aware of the responsibility that comes with being in the public eye.

“The amount of response that I get has made me see how much people love and respect me. For me to now use stupid statements to cancel everything, that’s not who I am. I’m sorry,” he added.

The apology has been met with mixed reactions. While many fans have commended 2Face for owning up to his error, others believe that the damage caused by his earlier statement still lingers, especially given his influence across Africa’s entertainment landscape.

Prominent women’s rights advocates and relationship experts have also weighed in. Some noted that the issue goes beyond celebrity banter — touching on deeper societal narratives about masculinity, fidelity, and respect for women.

“It’s not just about 2Face,” one X (Twitter) user wrote. “It’s about how normalized it is for men to devalue monogamy while women are judged for expecting loyalty.”

Still, many others came to the singer’s defense, citing his willingness to apologize publicly and admit fault as a rare sign of humility in the entertainment industry.

2Face’s statement also comes at a time when celebrity accountability is increasingly being demanded, especially in the age of digital media where words can spread and wound at lightning speed.

His wife, Natasha Idibia, has not publicly responded to the apology as of the time of this report.

As the dust begins to settle, fans and followers are hoping this will spark deeper conversations about responsibility, respect, and the power of influence.
