PSG Never Made an Offer for Victor Osimhen, Says Sports Director Luis Campos

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Sports Director, Luis Campos, has clarified that the club never made an offer for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Despite widespread speculation linking the Ligue 1 champions with a move for Osimhen before the start of the current European season, Campos has confirmed that the club did not pursue the player.

PSG had reportedly been interested in Osimhen as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who made a high-profile move to European champions Real Madrid. However, Campos dismissed the rumors, stating that PSG had not shown any formal interest in the former Lille striker.

Speaking to SportItalia correspondent Tancredi Palmeri in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Thinking Football Summit, Campos made it clear: “PSG never made an offer to Napoli for Osimhen.”

Victor Osimhen, one of the most sought-after forwards in European football, had been linked with several top clubs during the summer transfer window. The Nigerian international enjoyed a standout season with Napoli, helping them secure their first Serie A title in over three decades. His impressive performances caught the attention of many big clubs, including PSG. However, the Ligue 1 champions chose not to make a formal approach for the striker.

Instead, PSG focused on other transfer targets as they looked to rebuild their squad following the departure of Kylian Mbappe. The decision to let go of Mbappe to Real Madrid marked the end of an era for PSG, and the club has since been in search of reinforcements to fill the void left by their star forward. While Osimhen seemed a potential candidate, Campos’ statement suggests that PSG’s interest never went beyond speculation.

Osimhen, who had been with Napoli since 2020, recently completed a loan move to Turkish Super Lig champions, Galatasaray. This move marks a new chapter in the 24-year-old’s career, as he looks to continue his development and showcase his talent on a different stage.

The loan move to Galatasaray came as a surprise to many, given the interest Osimhen had generated from several European clubs. Galatasaray, who are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of their domestic and European campaigns, see Osimhen as a valuable addition. The Nigerian forward’s pace, power, and goal-scoring ability will be a significant asset to the Turkish side.

Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray also highlights the changing dynamics in European football transfers, with players increasingly looking beyond the traditional elite leagues for opportunities to grow and excel. The Turkish Super Lig has emerged as an attractive destination for many top talents, providing a platform for players to play regularly, compete in European competitions, and elevate their profiles.

For PSG, the decision not to pursue Osimhen reflects a strategic approach to the transfer market, with the club opting for other priorities. Since the departure of Mbappe, PSG has been active in the transfer market, bringing in several new faces as part of a broader squad overhaul. The club’s management appears focused on building a balanced team capable of competing at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions.

Osimhen’s future will be closely watched by football enthusiasts, especially given his remarkable rise from the French Ligue 1 to becoming a key figure in Serie A and now moving to the Turkish Super Lig. The Nigerian forward has consistently demonstrated his ability to adapt to different playing styles and environments, and his stint with Galatasaray will be another test of his versatility and determination to succeed.

While Osimhen settles into his new surroundings in Turkey, PSG will continue their preparations for the season with a revamped squad and high expectations. The Parisian club remains one of the most formidable forces in European football, and they will be looking to reclaim their dominance in Ligue 1 and make a significant impact in the UEFA Champions League.

As for Luis Campos, his comments have put to rest the speculation surrounding PSG’s alleged interest in Osimhen. The sports director’s statement underscores the club’s commitment to transparency and its focused approach to achieving its objectives in the transfer market.

With the European football season underway, the narratives surrounding transfers, player performances, and club strategies will continue to evolve. Both PSG and Osimhen will be eager to make their mark in their respective endeavors, and fans worldwide will be closely following their progress in the months to come.
