The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has endorsed the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, as its 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the Fomena constituency. The decision to endorse Asiamah, who is currently an independent Member of Parliament for Fomena, was made unanimously at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The endorsement was announced to the leadership of the Fomena Constituency on Thursday by the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. He emphasized the strong support the party has received from Asiamah, who has been instrumental in upholding the NPP’s image in Parliament.
Chairman Wontumi expressed the party’s optimism about reclaiming the Fomena seat in the upcoming elections with Asiamah as its candidate. “We are overwhelmed by the kind of support we have enjoyed from the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament. His dedication and loyalty have not gone unnoticed, and we believe that with him as our candidate, the Fomena seat will return to the NPP,” Chairman Wontumi stated.
He went on to highlight that the decision to have Asiamah return to his roots within the party is a significant step, not just business as usual, but a clear signal of victory for the Fomena constituency and the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Chairman Wontumi expressed gratitude to Asiamah for his unwavering commitment and support, which he described as having saved the party’s image in Parliament during critical times.
In response to the endorsement, Andrew Amoako Asiamah expressed his delight at returning to the party that he holds dear to his heart. He acknowledged that he had missed everything about the NPP and pledged to lead the party to a historic landslide victory in the Fomena constituency. “I am ready to lead the NPP to a resounding victory for Dr. Bawumia and myself in Fomena,” Asiamah said.
Asiamah called on party members and supporters to put any past differences behind them and unite for the greater good of the NPP. He emphasized that unity and cooperation among the constituency’s leaders, particularly Assembly members, are essential for a successful campaign. Asiamah urged them to focus on the many ongoing projects in the constituency as key talking points to win more votes for the party in the upcoming elections.
He added, “What is more important is that we all come together and work towards ensuring victory for our party. Let us focus on the development projects that are ongoing in the constituency and use them to garner more support for the NPP.”
Chairman Wontumi’s visit to the Fomena constituency also included meetings with various communities, such as Adokwai, Dompoase, and Old Edubiase. During these engagements, he rallied constituents around the need to retain the NPP in power come December 7. He urged them to recognize the progress made under the current government and to support the party’s efforts to continue its development agenda.
The endorsement of Asiamah as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Fomena marks a significant turn in the constituency’s political landscape. Having initially won the seat as an independent candidate after parting ways with the NPP, Asiamah’s return is seen as a strategic move to consolidate support and strengthen the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
The NPP’s decision to endorse Asiamah has been met with enthusiasm from party members and supporters in the constituency, who view his return as a positive development that will help the party maintain its hold on power. Asiamah’s track record and reputation as a committed and effective leader are expected to resonate with voters, further bolstering the NPP’s prospects in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
With the backing of the party and its leadership, Asiamah is poised to launch a vigorous campaign aimed at securing a decisive victory in the Fomena constituency. As the 2024 elections approach, the NPP remains focused on rallying its base, engaging with constituents, and promoting its achievements to secure a mandate to continue its governance of the country.
The NPP leadership is confident that with Asiamah as their candidate, they have a strong chance of not only retaining the Fomena seat but also contributing to a broader victory for the party in the national elections. As the campaign gains momentum, the NPP is determined to mobilize its supporters and ensure a successful outcome on December 7, 2024.
