The Ghana National Fire Service, in partnership with the Ghana Bowls Federation, organised a special training session on Tuesday, 18th November 2025 at the Accra Sports Stadium to introduce prospective bowlers to the fundamentals of the sport and promote the growth of the Bowls Club within the Service.

Senior Officers of the Service, working closely with officials from the Federation, guided participants through the essential techniques and principles of bowls. The President of the Ghana Bowls Federation, Charles Amofah, personally led the drills, demonstrating bowls handling and taking the trainees through structured exercises.
He urged them to take their training seriously, saying, “If you want to master this sport, join the stadium para bowlers who train every Monday and Tuesday. Consistency is the key to becoming excellent.”
The Director of Sports at the Ghana National Fire Service, Divisional Officer Grade 1, Mr. Akpor Edward Annang, expressed joy at bowls being officially recognised as one of the sporting disciplines within the Service and highlighted its inclusion in the Service’s recruitment exercise.
He added, “We are prepared to build a strong Fire Service bowls team—one that will be ready to challenge and defeat any team in the near future. Our commitment is firm.”
He further noted that the strengthening of the Fire Service Bowls Club is a major priority going forward.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who attended the event as Guest of Honour, praised the partnership between the Ghana Bowls Federation and the Fire Service. He reiterated the NSA’s commitment to supporting the security services in developing diverse sporting disciplines.
He said, “The NSA is ready to work closely with all sports directorates within our security services. Our goal is to create more employment avenues for our sportsmen and women by supporting a wider range of sporting disciplines.”
The event ended with renewed optimism as both institutions pledged to strengthen their collaboration, develop bowls across the country, and support the growing Bowls Club within the Fire Service.
