A Decade Distinguished: EMY Africa Marks Ten Years of Honouring the Continent’s Finest

EMY Africa celebrated its 10th anniversary on Saturday night at the Grand Arena, marking a decade of recognising outstanding Africans whose influence spans the continent and beyond. What began as a visionary awards platform has evolved into a continental institution—an annual ledger of excellence that honours individuals whose work expands the boundaries of what Africa can achieve.

The anniversary ceremony brought together statesmen, cultural icons, industry leaders, and emerging talents. The atmosphere was a blend of elegance, pride and shared purpose, underscoring the understanding that Africa’s progress is shaped by the people honoured in that room. Each attendee represented a story of resilience, innovation and dedication—stories that collectively form the modern African narrative.

10th EMY Africa Man of the Year Award Presentation to Sir Sam Jonah

The night’s emotional rhythm was guided by a series of captivating performances. Joe Mettle opened with a soulful and devotional set, creating a serene foundation for the evening. Efya followed with a graceful, refined performance that enveloped the hall in warmth. Ofori Amponsah then shifted the mood with nostalgic melodies that connected deeply with the audience. Adina delivered a moving tribute to Daddy Lumba and remembered leaders and icons lost within the year. Samini lifted the night to an energetic climax, closing the show with a spirited performance befitting a decade-long celebration.

At the peak of the honours stood Sir Sam Jonah, who received the prestigious Man of the Year (Man of the Decade) award—an honour acknowledging his lifetime of leadership across enterprise, governance and public influence. Equally significant was the recognition of Afi Amoro, crowned Woman of the Year, celebrated for reshaping Ghana’s event production industry through vision, creativity and excellence.

Beyond the applause and celebration, the night served as a reminder that African excellence is deliberate, enduring and deserving of recognition. For ten years, EMY Africa has offered that platform—not as a spectacle, but as a promise to honour the builders shaping the continent’s next chapter.
