Professional Profile Of Naa Korkoi Mensah (Aka Alexandra Olive Naa Korkoi Mensah)
Early Beginnings: A Young Woman Drawn to Stories
The story of Naa Korkoi Mensah began long before she ever entered a newsroom or sat behind a desk in a government office. As a young girl growing up in Ghana, she was always drawn to stories, how they were told, how they connected people, and how they shaped the way communities understood their world. At Krobo Girls Secondary School, she found herself naturally gravitating toward reading, writing, and public speaking. These early passions quietly pointed her toward a future in communication, even before she fully recognized it.
Her decision to study at the Ghana Institute of Journalism was therefore a natural extension of who she already was becoming. Between 2000 and 2002, she built a foundation that blended technical skill with a growing sense of purpose. She learned not just to report news, but to understand the responsibility that came with informing the public.
Later in life, when she added a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana and a Master’s degree in Media Management from GIJ, those choices reflected her constant desire to grow, to refine her voice, and to ensure she remained relevant in a rapidly evolving field.
Stepping Into the Media World: A Decade of Ground-Level Experience
Naa’s first real immersion into professional communication came through her national service at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. The newsroom environment was intense, unpredictable, and fast-moving, but she embraced it with a sense of excitement. It was here she learned to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and appreciate the power of clarity and accuracy in public information.
That experience became the springboard for nearly ten years of work across some of Ghana’s most influential media houses.
She wrote for The Daily Graphic, reported for Ghanaian Times, worked with the Ghana News Agency, GTV, Radio Ghana, The High Street Journal, and eventually The Finder Newspaper. Through these diverse roles, she honed her ability to tell stories that mattered to ordinary people. She covered politics, social issues, human interest stories, and national events, always approaching her work with humility and genuine curiosity.
Her role at The Finder Newspaper also introduced her to marketing and advertising, teaching her how communication could be used to influence behavior, strengthen brands, and build relationships.
These were skills she carried into every role that followed.
Growing Beyond Journalism: Building Experience and Community Impact
Naa’s communication journey did not stop at the newsroom. She extended her skills into community advocacy when she worked as a Public Relations Officer for the SOSYWEN Women Organisation. Here, she supported projects designed to uplift women and empower communities. This experience grounded her in a new kind of communication, one rooted in compassion, education, and social impact.
During this period, she also established her own small communication and events firm, NAKSAM Solutions. Running her own business taught her resilience and versatility. It pushed her to learn how to communicate not just as a reporter and writer, but as a strategist, organizer, and manager. These experiences shaped her into a more holistic communicator and strengthened her confidence in leading projects and people.
A Turning Point: Entering Public Service
In 2013, Naa made a significant transition into public sector communication when she joined the Information Services Department in Koforidua. Stepping into this new environment felt like a natural evolution of her career. It allowed her to use her storytelling skills to serve a bigger purpose: helping citizens understand government programs, policies, and national priorities.
As a News Editor for ISD, she wrote and edited stories for public dissemination, prepared reports, and represented the Regional Information Officer at major assignments. This role deepened her understanding of the public sector and taught her how to communicate policies in ways that ordinary people could understand and relate to.
Her excellent performance led to her reassignment to ISD Headquarters in 2015. There, she became the Supervising Officer in charge of the Audio-Visual Unit. For the first time, she was managing a team full-time, coordinating national event coverage, ensuring smooth audiovisual operations, and acting as the link between the unit and upper management. She worked tirelessly to keep operations running smoothly, even in challenging circumstances. It was a role that tested her leadership, sharpened her organizational skills, and expanded her influence within the department.
Reaching a New Peak: Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation
A major milestone in Naa’s journey came in 2019, when she was seconded to the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation as the Head of Public Relations. This position did not just elevate her career; it placed her at the forefront of one of Ghana’s most important national priorities, digital transformation.
In this role, Naa became the voice behind many of the Ministry’s biggest initiatives. She designed communication strategies, advised leadership, built strong relationships with the media, and ensured that the Ministry’s policies and programs were clearly communicated to the public. She played key roles in flagship initiatives such as Girls-In-ICT, DigSmart, One Million Coders, and the AI Ministerial Bootcamp, helping shine light on the country’s progress in technology and innovation.
Her work has consistently been rooted in one belief: that effective communication is essential for national development. Whether coordinating publicity campaigns, managing crisis communication, or supporting international collaborations, she approaches every task with dedication, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
A Journey of Lifelong Learning: Embracing the Future
Even with her years of experience, Naa remains a firm believer in lifelong learning. In 2025, she took significant steps to strengthen her understanding of the rapidly evolving digital world by earning certificates in AI Prompt Engineering and Intelligence Orchestration. These achievements reflect her readiness to adapt to new technologies and integrate them into her work as a modern communication leader.

Over the years, Naa’s contributions have been recognized through several national awards. They include distinctions such as Digital PR Woman of the Year, Outstanding Woman in Public Relations (Public Sector), Excellence in Promoting Digital Initiatives, and recognition as one of Ghana’s Top 20 Public Sector PR Leaders.
