Mohamed Salah Breaks Silence, Accuses Liverpool of Broken Promises After Three Consecutive Games on the Bench

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has ignited a storm of controversy after publicly expressing frustration over what he describes as unfair treatment and broken promises by the club. The Egyptian superstar, who has been benched for three straight Premier League matches, says he feels deliberately targeted and pushed towards an exit.

Salah, 33, made the remarks after Liverpool’s dramatic 3–3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday—another match in which the club’s second-highest scorer of the Premier League era started on the bench. Liverpool’s recent form has been alarming, with the Reds winning just twice in their last ten league games and failing to collect maximum points in eight of their last fifteen matches. As pressure mounts on the club, Salah says he believes he is being singled out as the scapegoat.

In a candid and emotional moment, he told reporters he was stunned by how quickly things had changed:
I can’t believe that I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. The third time on the bench—this is the first time in my career. I am very, very disappointed to be fair. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season. Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why.

Salah has scored 188 Premier League goals since arriving at Anfield in 2017 and has been one of the most consistent forwards in world football. Despite his contributions, he now finds himself out of the starting lineup, even in matches where Liverpool clearly need attacking inspiration.

According to Salah, the club’s leadership has not been honest with him.
It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I’m on the bench for three games. I can’t say they kept their promises,” he said.

A Strained Relationship With the Manager

Perhaps the most surprising revelation was Salah’s claim that his once-strong relationship with Liverpool’s manager has deteriorated rapidly.
I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why. But it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me in the club,” he added.

The Egyptian forward hinted that internal decisions had been made long before fans noticed any tension. He revealed that he had informed his family ahead of the Leeds game that he was unlikely to start, despite no public indication of that beforehand.

My kids didn’t know if I would start or not, but I knew. I called my mum yesterday and told them to come to the Brighton game on 13 December. I don’t know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I’m going to enjoy that game because I don’t know what is going to happen now.

Preparing for a Possible Goodbye

Salah, who will represent Egypt at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, suggested that his future at Liverpool is increasingly uncertain and hinted at a potential farewell.

I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans before going to AFCON. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there,” he said.

His comments have sparked widespread debate among Liverpool supporters, many of whom regard him as a club legend and one of the greatest players in Anfield history.

A Difficult Season for Liverpool

This season has been one of the club’s most turbulent in recent years. Following a summer of restructuring, Liverpool’s form has been inconsistent, and the team appears to be lacking the attacking cohesion that defined their peak years. Salah was one of the few players who consistently produced goals even during the club’s struggles, making his recent benching all the more shocking.

Liverpool’s difficulties have led to speculation about internal disagreements, managerial uncertainty, and possible squad rebuild plans. Salah’s comments now confirm that disagreements behind the scenes may be deeper than initially thought.

A Player Who Gave Everything

Salah has repeatedly stated his deep love for Liverpool and its supporters. He said his commitment to the club has never wavered:
This club, I always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much. I always will,” he said.

Fans will remember his crucial goals in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup—deliveries that helped Liverpool secure multiple major trophies under Jurgen Klopp. But Salah now suggests that despite his loyalty, he no longer feels valued.

What Next for Salah?

With AFCON less than a month away, attention now turns to whether Liverpool will seek to offload the forward in January or negotiate a summer departure. There is also interest from Saudi Pro League clubs who have been monitoring Salah for two seasons.

Whether he stays or leaves, Salah’s remarks mark a turning point—one that all but confirms the end of an era at Anfield.

As fans brace for what could be one of the club’s most emotional goodbyes, the uncertainty surrounding Liverpool’s future only deepens. For now, Salah remains part of the squad, but his latest statements suggest a chapter is closing—and another one, perhaps far from Anfield, may be about to begin.
