Afro-Arab Goes Green With Electric Trotro Initiative In Ghana

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu has once again demonstrated his strong commitment to community welfare and environmental sustainability by sponsoring free Electric Vehicle (EV) trotro rides for commuters along the 37 to Abeka Lapaz route in Accra.

The initiative, rolled out under the Afro-Arab brand, is aimed at supporting Ghanaians during the festive season by easing traffic congestion and providing free transportation to stranded and daily commuters. The gesture also highlights Afro-Arab’s growing investment in green mobility solutions within Ghana’s public transport sector.

The free EV trotro rides offered significant relief to passengers, many of whom expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, especially amid rising transportation costs. Commuters described the initiative as thoughtful, impactful, and beneficial to both the public and the environment.

Speaking on the initiative, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu explained that the project forms part of Afro-Arab’s broader “Afro-Arab Is Green” agenda, which promotes shared transportation, reduced carbon emissions, and the adoption of clean energy solutions in urban mobility.

According to him, integrating electric vehicles into public transport is critical to reducing air pollution, lowering fuel dependency, and minimizing environmental degradation in major cities. He added that such innovations also contribute to the modernization and sustainability of Ghana’s transport system.

The initiative further aligns with Afro-Arab’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts, which focus on community empowerment, youth engagement, job creation, and environmental advocacy. Through projects like this, Afro-Arab continues to position itself as a key driver of sustainable development and social impact.

Many commuters along the route have called for the expansion of the EV trotro initiative to other parts of the country, noting that such programmes not only reduce financial pressure on citizens but also contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment.

Beyond the free rides, Afro-Arab also announced that the electric buses are available for sale to both private individuals and corporate institutions. Interested buyers can acquire the EV buses with a minimum down payment of 40 percent, while the remaining balance can be spread over 36 months (three years) with no interest.
