Nigerian makeup artist and creative entrepreneur Tesglam has been officially honoured by Guinness World Records after successfully completing a 146-hour continuous makeup application marathon in Lagos, earning her a place in the global record books and further spotlighting Nigeria’s growing creative industry.
Tesglam recently received her official Guinness World Records plaque and medal following the completion and validation of the record attempt, which took place at Landmark in Lagos. The marathon lasted six uninterrupted days and saw the makeup artist apply makeup continuously on more than 200 individuals, drawing widespread attention from beauty professionals, creatives, youth groups, and supporters across the country and beyond.
The challenge attracted a steady stream of on-site spectators, while thousands more followed the journey online through social media updates and live coverage. Over the course of the six days, the venue transformed into a hub of creativity and collective encouragement, with volunteers, assistants, and supporters working around the clock to ensure the smooth running of the attempt.
After the event concluded, Guinness World Records initiated its standard verification process, which involved reviewing extensive documentation, time logs, video evidence, and independent witness statements. Several weeks later, the record was officially confirmed, marking the successful completion of the validation phase and culminating in the presentation of the plaque.
Speaking after receiving the recognition, Tesglam described the achievement as a powerful reminder of what determination and community support can accomplish. She emphasized that the journey was not solely about breaking a record, but about perseverance, belief, and shared purpose.
“This record represents discipline, faith, and the power of community,” she said. “What carried me through was not just skill, but the people who showed up, prayed, checked in, and believed. This achievement belongs to all of us.”
Tesglam also acknowledged the physical and mental demands of the marathon, admitting that sustaining focus and precision for such an extended period pushed her beyond her comfort zone. According to her, exhaustion set in at various points, but the presence and encouragement of supporters kept her motivated.
“There were moments when I was completely exhausted, but knowing that people believed in me kept me going,” she added. “Every face I worked on reminded me why I started this journey and why I refused to give up.”
The record attempt received notable recognition from public officials during its run. The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth paid a courtesy visit to the venue, interacting with participants and observing the process firsthand. Following the official confirmation of the record, the Commissioner congratulated Tesglam, describing her achievement as a source of pride for Lagos and an inspiration to young creatives.
“She has not only represented Lagos with pride but has also inspired young creatives to pursue excellence on a global stage,” the Commissioner said.
Participants who served as models during the marathon also shared their experiences, describing the atmosphere as intense, uplifting, and deeply motivating. Many highlighted Tesglam’s consistency and professionalism despite the demanding nature of the challenge.
One participant, Ifeoma Adeyemi, said watching Tesglam work tirelessly was inspiring. “Her focus and dedication were remarkable. It motivated all of us to give our best and reminded us that success requires endurance,” she said.
Another participant, Chinedu Okafor, described the event as more than just a record attempt. “It felt like a community movement,” he said. “People came to cheer her on, others followed online, and everyone felt connected to the journey. It was a shared experience.”
According to an official press statement, the Guinness World Records verification process took several weeks to complete before the plaque was unveiled. Tesglam described that moment as deeply symbolic, representing years of preparation, consistency, and belief.
“Holding the plaque and seeing it officially confirmed was overwhelming,” she said. “It is a reminder that persistence pays off and that dreams nurtured with community support are achievable.”
Beyond the record-breaking feat, Tesglam’s professional work spans fashion, editorial projects, commercial campaigns, and creative direction. Over the years, she has built a strong reputation within Nigeria’s beauty industry, blending technical expertise with artistic expression.
Looking ahead, Tesglam said she plans to focus on education, mentorship, and community-based beauty initiatives aimed at supporting young creatives. She expressed a desire to create platforms that allow talent to grow sustainably and access opportunities beyond local boundaries.
“I hope to mentor young creatives and help build systems where talent can thrive without borders,” she said. “This record is just the beginning.”
With Lagos as the backdrop to the achievement, Tesglam’s milestone is being celebrated as both a personal triumph and a moment of national pride. Industry observers say the feat underscores the global potential of Nigeria’s creative sector, demonstrating how consistency, resilience, and community support can lead to international recognition.
As tributes continue to pour in, Tesglam’s accomplishment stands as a testament to endurance, vision, and the rising influence of African creatives on the world stage.
