The Africa Trade Academy (ATA) has celebrated a significant milestone with the maiden graduation of its inaugural class from the FITT Diploma in International Trade. The ceremony marked the successful completion of the programme by 25 senior business executives drawn from different parts of the African continent.
Held in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, the event symbolised the transition of the graduates from scholars to influential leaders expected to contribute meaningfully to the future of African commerce and regional trade development.
The ceremony began with a dignified academic procession led by the chair, Naa Alhaji Seidu Daari. The formal opening later gave way to a display of rich cultural heritage as a dynamic traditional dance ensemble from Northern Ghana performed, reflecting the spirit of a continent that proudly preserves its cultural identity while embracing a bold and integrated economic future.
Welcoming guests and participants, the Dean of the Africa Trade Academy, Mr. Dode Seidu, described the occasion as not merely the conclusion of a programme but the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates and for Africa’s trade landscape.
“Today is a testament to our collective commitment to excellence and a brighter economic future for Africa,” he stated. He also highlighted the Academy’s partnership with the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), describing it as a strategic collaboration aimed at developing visionary leaders capable of transforming Africa’s trade ecosystem.
Delivering the keynote address, the National President of Borderless Alliance, Mr. Ziad Hamoui, challenged the graduates to take active roles in strengthening trade integration across the continent.
According to him, trade education plays a central role in driving Africa’s economic transformation.
“Trade training is not peripheral; it is the very heartbeat of Africa’s integration,” he emphasised. “You now carry the responsibility to translate agreements into action, rules into results, and collective ambition into tangible cross-border commerce.”
Mr. Hamoui encouraged the graduates to become reformers within the trade ecosystem, stressing that the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) depends on professionals who are willing to challenge inefficiencies, break barriers and promote seamless regional trade.
One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony came when graduate representatives from Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo shared reflections on their journey through the programme. Their testimonies highlighted the rigorous yet transformative nature of the training, which equipped them with practical knowledge, renewed confidence and the skills needed to navigate global trade dynamics.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to the graduates. Each participant was honoured with a specially woven Kente stole, symbolising recognition, achievement and cultural pride. The certificates were presented by the Dean, the keynote speaker and members of the Advisory Board, marking the official induction of the graduates into a new generation of Africa’s trade and economic leaders.
With the graduation of this pioneering class, the Africa Trade Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to building capacity and expertise in international trade across the continent.
The Academy also announced that the next cohort for the FITT Diploma in International Trade will commence on February 23, 2026, inviting the next generation of ambitious African leaders to participate in the programme and contribute to the transformation of Africa’s trade future.
