Accra, Ghana – May 22, 2026 – MTN Ghana has marked thirty years of operations with a renewed commitment to serving as a strategic partner in Ghana’s national development, announcing major investments in fibre infrastructure, network modernisation and sustainable digital platforms aimed at driving the country’s next phase of digital transformation.
The milestone celebration was officially launched on May 14, 2026, at MTN House in Accra under the theme “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.” The event brought together the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, members of the media and key stakeholders in the telecommunications industry.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, described the anniversary as more than a corporate celebration, calling it a uniquely Ghanaian story built on connection, inclusion and shared progress over the past three decades.
“This is not just about towers and cables. It is about people, farmers, traders, students, nurses and entrepreneurs whose lives have been transformed by the ability to connect,” he stated.
Mr. Blewett explained that MTN Ghana is positioning itself for the next phase of Ghana’s digital economy through targeted investments in fibre expansion, core network modernisation and advanced technologies expected to support productivity, innovation and economic growth across various sectors.
“The next phase of Ghana’s development will be built on mobile platforms on farms, in markets, in clinics, classrooms and creative studios. Technology will remove geography as a disadvantage and open Ghanaian talent to the world,” he added.
He further noted that sustainability remains central to MTN Ghana’s long term strategy, with ongoing investments in renewable energy solutions, responsible technology use and resilient future ready networks designed to balance growth with environmental stewardship.
Reflecting on MTN Ghana’s journey since 1996, Mr. Blewett highlighted the transformative impact of Mobile Money in deepening financial inclusion, supporting households and small businesses, and becoming part of everyday life and commerce in Ghana.
According to him, MTN Ghana’s contribution to national development continues to be measurable through public revenue generation, continuous network expansion and community investments delivered through the MTN Ghana Foundation in education, health, skills development and economic empowerment.
“Connectivity is no longer a luxury. It is essential national infrastructure, and MTN Ghana has a responsibility to ensure it is reliable, inclusive and future ready,” he said.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, congratulated MTN Ghana on reaching its 30 year milestone, describing the achievement as part of Ghana’s broader telecommunications success story.
He noted that Ghana’s telecom sector has evolved into a modern, mobile first and data driven ecosystem serving millions of subscribers nationwide, with MTN Ghana playing a distinctive role through its early introduction of GSM technology, leadership in Mobile Money, continuous network investments, listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange and contribution as one of the country’s largest corporate taxpayers.
