Accra, Ghana – The Regional President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFDO), Elikplim Klu, has called for renewed commitment to the full implementation and enforcement of disability rights as Ghana marks National Disability Day 2026.
This year’s commemoration also marks the 20th Anniversary of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), under the theme: “From Act to Action: Finalizing Reforms and Enforcing Disability Rights Now and Beyond.”
In a statement issued to commemorate the occasion, Mr. Klu emphasized that the country must move beyond policy commitments and ensure that the rights of persons with disabilities are fully protected, implemented, and enforced.
He noted that achieving an inclusive society requires collective action from government institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, development partners, and citizens. According to him, accessible infrastructure, inclusive education, employment opportunities, social protection, and the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making should become realities rather than aspirations.
Mr. Klu further urged stakeholders to renew their commitment to building a Ghana where no one is left behind and where disability rights are recognized and respected as fundamental human rights.
As Ghana commemorates National Disability Day 2026, he called on all sectors of society to work together in promoting inclusion, equality, and dignity for persons with disabilities.
