Ronaldo leaves Portugal camp

Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Portugal national team camp and returned to Madrid ahead of the team’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the development in a post on X, stating that Ronaldo left the camp on Wednesday and arrived in Madrid in the early hours of Thursday.

The Al-Nassr forward’s departure followed a discussion with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.

Ronaldo will therefore miss Portugal’s upcoming fixtures against Denmark and Norway.

The 41-year-old was involved in Portugal’s recent match against Wales, where one of his efforts was ruled out. He was also an unused substitute during Portugal’s victory over Norway.

Portugal coach Jorge Jesus had confirmed that Ronaldo would not start the next fixture, but the circumstances surrounding the forward’s departure from the camp have not been fully disclosed.

Ronaldo remains Portugal’s captain and is the country’s all-time leading scorer and most-capped player.

Portugal will continue preparations for their upcoming Nations League matches without the veteran forward.
