Al Shabab have granted Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey special leave to return home following the death of his father, Jacob Partey.
Jacob Partey passed away last week after a short illness.
The Saudi Pro League club has extended its condolences to Partey and his family, wishing them strength and patience as they mourn their loss.
Partey joined Al Shabab on August 12 as the Riyadh-based club looked to strengthen its midfield options ahead of the new season.
The Ghana international brings valuable experience to the squad, having played at the highest level of European football during spells with Atlético Madrid and Arsenal.
Partey began his senior career in Spain and also featured for Villarreal before establishing himself as an important player at Atlético Madrid.
He spent last season with Villarreal, making 32 appearances across all competitions without scoring or registering an assist.
The midfielder later moved to Saudi Arabia to begin a new chapter of his career with Al Shabab.
The club will be hoping to benefit from Partey’s technical ability, physical strength and experience as they compete in the new Saudi Pro League season.
Partey is expected to return to Al Shabab after attending to family matters and joining his loved ones in Ghana during this difficult period.
