MTN Group CEO Reaffirms Commitment To Ghana’s Digital Infrastructure

Accra, Tuesday, October 27, 2026 – MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, has reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital infrastructure and digital sovereignty during a working visit to the country.

The visit, which took place on Monday, October 26, 2026, comes as MTN Ghana marks 30 years of operations in the country.

Mr. Mupita said Ghana remained an important market for the Group, adding that MTN was confident in the country’s long-term prospects and committed to supporting its digital transformation agenda.

“Ghana remains a material operation for the Group, and our confidence in the country’s long-term prospects is unchanged. Our commitment is to support the Government’s digital transformation through mobile broadband and financial networks that support and strengthen Ghana’s digital sovereignty and support Africa’s progress,” he said.

During the visit, Mr. Mupita held engagements with key government stakeholders to discuss how MTN’s accelerated investments could advance financial inclusion, improve connectivity and strengthen the country’s digital economy.

The engagements formed part of the company’s broader commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital development through investments in telecommunications, financial technology and other critical digital infrastructure.

As part of his engagements, Mr. Mupita paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

Discussions focused on digital financial inclusion and the role of mobile money and digital platforms in expanding economic opportunities for Ghanaian women, particularly traders, farmers and small business owners.

The meeting highlighted the potential of digital financial services to improve access to financial transactions and provide opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate more effectively in the digital economy.

Mr. Mupita and his delegation also met the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George.

Their discussions centred on accelerating home broadband connectivity, expanding fibre infrastructure and rolling out 5G technology to improve customer experience and meet Ghana’s growing digital infrastructure needs.

The engagements also considered the investments required to support the country’s evolving connectivity demands and strengthen the foundation for digital services across different sectors of the economy.

Mr. Mupita’s final engagement was with the Bank of Ghana, where he met the Governor, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama.

During the meeting, he commended the central bank for its work towards consolidating macroeconomic stability and reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to supporting a safe, well-governed and inclusive digital payments ecosystem.

The discussions underscored the importance of maintaining confidence in digital financial services as mobile money and other electronic payment platforms continue to play a role in everyday economic activities.

MTN said it would continue investing in Ghana across connectivity, fintech and digital infrastructure to support the country’s digital transformation and contribute to the development of an inclusive digital economy.

Mr. Mupita was accompanied on the visit by MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, and MobileMoney Fintech Limited Chief Executive Officer, Shaibu Haruna.
