Ten Young Fintech Innovators to Compete for National Mentorship Programme Places at MoMo Fintech Lab Accra Hackathon

ACCRA, Ghana, November 5, 2026 – Ten young innovators from the Southern Zone of the 2026 MoMo Fintech Lab will pitch their innovative solutions to a panel of industry experts on Friday, November 6, as they compete for five places in the programme’s National Mentorship Programme.

The Accra Zonal Hackathon Pitch Competition, organised by MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), is scheduled to take place at 9:00 a.m. at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.

The ten teams were selected from 19 ideas presented during the Accra Bootcamp, where participants underwent three days of intensive training, pitching sessions and mentorship. The sessions were designed to help them refine their ideas, develop prototypes and strengthen their business models.

Their proposed solutions focus on addressing everyday financial challenges, including security, savings, payments and payment solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Accra competition marks the conclusion of the zonal hackathon activities, following similar bootcamps and competitions in Tamale and Kumasi. Five teams will emerge from the Southern Zone to join their counterparts from the Northern and Middle Zones in the National Mentorship Programme.

The selected innovators will receive further guidance and industry support to strengthen their solutions and prepare for the National Demo Day.

Commenting on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, Shaibu Haruna, said the zonal bootcamps and hackathons had produced promising ideas aimed at addressing challenges across different sectors of the economy.

“Through the zonal bootcamps and hackathons, we have seen promising ideas addressing challenges across different sectors of the economy. Participants have focused on specific needs in their communities, including agricultural support, security for traders and merchant solutions.

“Our focus is to help these innovators strengthen their solutions, build commercially viable business models and prepare for the next stage of the programme. We remain committed to supporting innovation that creates meaningful impact and contributes to Ghana’s digital economy,” he said.

The MoMo Fintech Lab is designed to identify, mentor and support emerging innovators in developing practical and commercially viable financial technology solutions that address everyday challenges, expand financial access and strengthen Ghana’s digital economy.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the programme provides participants with technical, leadership and commercialisation skills while connecting them with experienced mentors and key players within the financial technology ecosystem.

The initiative seeks to transform promising ideas into sustainable and scalable solutions capable of responding to the needs of individuals, businesses and communities.

The programme will culminate in a National Demo Day scheduled for December 3, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium.

At the event, six finalists will showcase their innovations and compete for cash awards of up to GH¢100,000, digital devices and other forms of support to advance their solutions.

The MoMo Fintech Lab is organised in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, with support from several ecosystem partners, including GCB Bank, Hubtel, appsNmobile, Zenith Bank, First National Bank, Blue Penguin, Korba, Fidelity Bank, Afrifanom (VaMiJo) and JUMO.
