Ghanaian Players Shine in Leagues Around the Globe

This weekend saw a number of Ghanaian footballers showcasing their talents across various leagues worldwide. From scoring goals to providing assists, these players made their mark on the international stage. Here’s a roundup of the standout performances by Ghanaian players abroad, compiled by Herbert Boakye Yiadom.

In France, Elisha Owusu was the star of the night, scoring and assisting in Auxerre’s commanding 3-0 win over Brest in Ligue 1. Owusu’s performance helped his team secure all three points in what was a crucial match for their campaign.

Gideon Mensah also made an appearance as a substitute, contributing to Auxerre’s victory. Meanwhile, Mohammed Salisu was solid in defense as AS Monaco edged Montpellier 2-1. In another French fixture, Alidu Seidu featured in Rennes’ 3-1 loss to PSG, while Koffi Kouao and Nathaniel Adjei were involved in Metz and Lorient’s matches, respectively.

In England, Albert Adomah was on target for Walsall in their emphatic 4-0 victory over Colchester in League One. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey played 85 minutes for Arsenal in their 4-2 triumph over Leicester City in the Premier League. Other Ghanaians involved in the Premier League were Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who both made substitute appearances for Leicester City.

Mohammed Kudus also saw action for West Ham, though he was substituted at halftime in their 1-1 draw against Brentford. In the Championship, Thomas Brandon Asante featured for Coventry City in their loss to Leeds United.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Kingsley Schindler scored a crucial goal for Samsunspor in their thrilling 4-3 win over Göztepe, while Jerome Opoku helped Basaksehir secure a 2-1 victory over Sivasspor.

Nicholas Opoku also put in a solid 90 minutes for Kasimpasa in their 3-3 draw against Galatasaray, and Alexander Djiku played for Fenerbahçe in their 2-0 win over Antalyaspor.

In Italy, Ghanaian players were active in Serie A, while over in Spain, Abdul Mumin played the full match for Rayo Vallecano in their 1-1 draw against Leganes.

Over in Belgium, Mohammed Fuseini added his name to the scoresheet with a goal for Royale Union in their 3-0 win over Kortrijk.

Christopher Bonsu Baah saw 32 minutes of action for Genk in their win over KV Mechelen, while Majeed Ashimeru played for Anderlecht in their 1-1 draw against Dender.

In Germany, Christopher Antwi-Adjei featured for Schalke in their 2-1 win over Preussen Munster, and Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer saw brief action for Hamburger SV in their 2-2 draw with Paderborn.

Ghanaian players also impressed in the Slovakian and Moldovan leagues. Bright Donkor came off the bench to score for Trencin in their 1-1 draw against Podbrezova, while Sharani Zuberu also netted as Slovan Bratislava defeated Michalovce 4-2. Abdul Rashid Abubakar scored his first goal for Spartanii in their 2-0 victory over Floresti in Moldova.

In the United States, Kelvin Yeboah was the standout performer in Major League Soccer (MLS), bagging a brace in Minnesota United’s 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids. Kwadwo Opoku, Patrick Agyemang, and Emmanuel Boateng were also in action in the MLS, contributing to their teams’ respective matches.

Lalas Abubakar played 90 minutes for Colorado Rapids in their loss to Minnesota, while Prince Osei Owusu found the back of the net for Toronto FC in their 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire.

Elsewhere, Ghanaian players were active in Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USL Championship.
