The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has lauded the leadership qualities of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and called on Ghanaians to support him in the upcoming 2024 general elections. Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Ashanti Region on Friday, November 15, KT Hammond described Dr. Bawumia as “God’s gift to Ghana,” emphasizing his vision, integrity, and capability to lead the country toward development.
KT Hammond highlighted the importance of electing a leader with a track record of competence, contrasting Dr. Bawumia’s leadership style with that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama. According to Hammond, Mahama has been rejected in previous elections and does not deserve another opportunity to lead. He pointed to what he described as unresolved issues and allegations from Mahama’s tenure, including the infamous guinea fowl project and the NDC’s inability to articulate their 24-hour economy proposal.
“There’s someone in this country who wants to be president again after being rejected severally by the electorate. He was unable to answer several allegations leveled against him regarding his tenure, including his inability to bring back the guinea fowl which flew to Burkina Faso. NDC communicators are unable to even explain the 24-hour economy proposal,” Hammond remarked.
He drew a comparison to the biblical story of Jesus Christ, urging voters to recognize the value of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership. “You remember how Jesus Christ was treated. Let’s be careful. God has given us Alhaji Dr. Bawumia as a gift. Let’s make sure we vote for him to be President to use his knowledge and skills to change the fortunes of Ghana. He will ensure developments in Asokwa,” Hammond said.
Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing campaign tour of the Ashanti Region has been a significant part of his efforts to engage with communities and present his vision for Ghana. On Friday, November 15, he visited the Adansi area, covering six constituencies: Akrofuom, Obuasi East, Obuasi West, Fomena, Adansi Asokwa, and New Edubiase. Earlier stops on the tour included Obuasi East, Obuasi West, and Akrofuom, where he interacted with residents, traditional leaders, and party supporters.
The Friday leg of his tour included visits to New Edubiase, Adansi Asokwa, and Fomena. Notably, New Edubiase stands out as the only constituency in the Adansi area that has consistently supported the NDC. Dr. Bawumia’s presence there was seen as a strategic move to win over voters in a traditionally opposition stronghold.
KT Hammond expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to bring meaningful change and address the challenges facing Ghana. He reiterated that the 2024 elections offer an opportunity for Ghanaians to choose a leader who combines economic expertise with a commitment to development.
Hammond’s endorsement aligns with the broader strategy of the NPP to consolidate its support base in the Ashanti Region while making inroads into constituencies with strong opposition ties. Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has focused on highlighting his economic achievements as Vice President, his digitalization initiatives, and his vision for inclusive growth.
As the campaign heats up, both the NPP and the NDC are intensifying efforts to win over undecided voters and solidify their bases. With KT Hammond’s emphatic support for Dr. Bawumia, the NPP continues to project him as a unifying figure capable of addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges and steering the nation toward progress.
The 2024 general elections will undoubtedly be a defining moment for Ghana’s democratic journey. For supporters like KT Hammond, the choice is clear: a leader with proven competence and a vision for the future, whom he describes as a divine gift to the nation.
