Sam George Urges Ghanaians to Defend Family Values in December 7 Elections

Sam Nartey George, the lead advocate for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, has issued a strong warning to Ghanaians ahead of the December 7 elections. Speaking at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) final rally at Zurak Park in Madina on Thursday, December 5, the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of promoting policies that undermine Ghanaian cultural and family values.

According to Sam George, a vote for the NPP represents an endorsement of homosexuality and foreign influences that threaten the moral fabric of the nation. He urged Ghanaians to reject the NPP and instead vote overwhelmingly for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, whom he described as the true defenders of Ghana’s cultural heritage and moral principles.

In his address, Sam George argued that the NPP has failed to uphold the cultural values that Ghanaians hold dear, accusing the ruling party of being lenient on LGBTQ+ issues. He warned that if re-elected, the NPP could implement policies that erode Ghana’s moral standards and weaken the country’s traditional values.

“On Saturday, as we go to the polls, we vote for one reason, which is the reset of Ghana,” Sam George declared passionately. “A vote for John Dramani Mahama is a vote to protect our culture and our family values. A vote for Bawumia and NAPO is a vote for homosexuality, a vote for comprehensive sexuality education, and Ghanaians must say no.”

He expressed confidence that under a Mahama-led government, the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill would be quickly signed into law, solidifying Ghana’s stance against LGBTQ+ activities. Sam George described the bill as a critical safeguard against what he termed “external influences” attempting to impose foreign values on the country.

The legislator emphasized the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural identity and family structure, stating that the NDC remains committed to upholding these values. He contrasted this with the NPP’s policies, which he argued are at odds with the traditions and beliefs that define Ghanaian society.

“We need Mahama to come and sign the bill into law. If you love the children of Ghana, if you love our family values, and you love your faith, vote against the NPP,” he urged the crowd.

The rally at Zurak Park drew thousands of NDC supporters, who cheered and waved party flags as speakers reinforced their campaign message. Sam George’s speech was a highlight of the event, encapsulating the NDC’s promise to defend Ghana’s cultural and moral standards.

As the December 7 elections approach, the debate over the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has become a central issue, reflecting broader concerns about the influence of globalization on Ghana’s cultural identity. The bill, which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities and promote family values, has sparked significant public discourse, with advocates like Sam George positioning it as a litmus test for political leadership.

For the NDC, the elections represent an opportunity to realign Ghana with its traditional values. Sam George’s remarks underscore the party’s commitment to resisting what it views as external pressures to adopt foreign cultural norms. He framed the elections as a moral decision, urging voters to consider the long-term implications of their choices.

The NPP, on the other hand, has largely avoided making the LGBTQ+ debate a focal point of its campaign, instead emphasizing economic development and technological innovation. However, Sam George’s accusations have brought the issue to the forefront, forcing voters to grapple with questions about cultural preservation and governance.

The atmosphere at the rally was electric, with NDC supporters expressing enthusiasm for the party’s vision. Many attendees voiced their agreement with Sam George’s sentiments, echoing calls for a return to leadership that prioritizes Ghanaian values.

Sam George’s passionate appeal reflects the high stakes of the elections, as Ghanaians prepare to choose between competing visions for the country’s future. He concluded his speech with a rallying cry for unity and action, urging every voter to make their voice heard.

“This is not just another election,” he declared. “This is about the soul of our nation. Let us protect what makes us Ghanaian. Let us stand with John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to defend our family values and secure a brighter future for our children.”

The December 7 elections are shaping up to be a defining moment in Ghana’s history. With cultural and moral values taking center stage, voters face a critical decision that will shape the country’s direction for years to come. For Sam George and the NDC, the path is clear: a vote for Mahama is a vote for preserving Ghana’s heritage and resisting external influences that threaten its identity.
