The 2001 Year Group of the Accra Academy Old Boys Association (AAOBA), affectionately known as BLEOO 2G1, has officially launched its 25th Anniversary Celebration under the theme “Celebrating Brotherhood, Impact and Legacy.” The milestone event marks a quarter-century since the group graduated from the prestigious Accra Academy and highlights their enduring bond, commitment to service, and desire to give back to their alma mater.
The media launch, held at the school’s campus in Bubiashie, Accra, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, brought together distinguished alumni, school leadership, students, and invited guests. The event unveiled the anniversary logo, mascot, and details of the group’s legacy project — the renovation of the Dining Hall and Kitchen Complex — a project aimed at enhancing the school’s infrastructure and creating a lasting impact for future generations of BLEOO students.
A Grand Beginning
The occasion was graced by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Philip Kwame Tieku, Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil Ghana, who is also a proud member of the 2001 year group. In his address, Mr. Tieku expressed joy at joining his colleagues to mark this significant milestone. He commended BLEOO 2G1 for their sense of unity, purpose, and unwavering dedication to Accra Academy’s development.
“As we celebrate this remarkable journey, we are reminded that giving back is not just an obligation but a duty of gratitude,” Mr. Tieku said. “I am proud of the leadership and direction this group continues to demonstrate and pledge my full support toward the successful completion of our legacy project.”
Celebrating the BLEOO Spirit
The event drew notable personalities including the Global President of AAOBA, the Headmaster of Accra Academy, representatives from St. Mary’s Old Girls Association (SMOGA), members of staff, students, and well-wishers who came together to honour the BLEOO legacy of excellence and camaraderie.
Delivering his remarks, Mr. Ernest Boakye-Yiadom, Chairman of the Planning Committee, explained that the 25th Anniversary serves not only as a celebration of memories but as a time for reflection and renewed commitment to service.
“This celebration is about more than nostalgia — it’s about impact,” he stated. “It’s about standing together to make a difference and to leave a mark that aligns with our motto, Esse Quam Videri — To Be Rather Than to Seem. We want this celebration to remind us of who we are and what we represent as BLEOO men.”
Leadership and Legacy
The Global President of AAOBA, in his address, praised BLEOO 2G1 for their exemplary leadership, discipline, and innovation. He noted that the group’s proactive approach to community engagement and school development is a model that other year groups can emulate.
“BLEOO 2G1 has demonstrated what true brotherhood means. Their collective effort reflects the power of unity and the spirit of service that defines Accra Academy,” he said.
He further encouraged the alumni community to sustain this momentum, emphasizing that such initiatives are vital in sustaining the school’s proud tradition of excellence.
The Headmaster of Accra Academy also lauded the year group for their loyalty and initiative. He emphasized that alumni contributions play a crucial role in maintaining academic and infrastructural standards.
“Our old boys continue to inspire us through their actions,” the Headmaster remarked. “This project is a testament to their love for the school and their desire to see BLEOO thrive for generations to come.”
Symbol of Commitment
The launch also featured the unveiling of the 25th Anniversary logo and mascot, both of which symbolize the spirit of resilience, excellence, and unity that BLEOO 2G1 embodies. The event included solidarity messages from partner associations such as SMOGA, a media interaction session, and a networking segment that allowed alumni and students to share ideas and aspirations.
In his keynote message, BLEOO 2G1 President, Mr. Daniel Adjetey Adjeye, expressed deep gratitude to members and partners who have supported the vision of the group since its inception.
“This milestone reminds us of how far we have come — from students full of dreams to men of purpose and influence,” he said. “Our journey continues, and this celebration marks a new chapter of service, mentorship, and legacy-building.”
He further announced that the 25th Anniversary activities will extend throughout 2026, featuring mentorship programs, career guidance sessions, community outreach, and the official commissioning of the Dining Hall and Kitchen Complex. He also called on alumni, sponsors, and corporate institutions to join hands in building a stronger foundation for future BLEOO generations.
“Together, we can leave behind a legacy that every BLEOO will be proud of. This is our time to give back, to make an impact, and to inspire the next generation,” Mr. Adjeye added.
A Lasting Impact
As the program drew to a close, participants reflected on the powerful sense of unity and shared purpose that has defined BLEOO 2G1’s journey over the past 25 years. The launch concluded with a group photograph, a networking session, and renewed calls for collective responsibility in nurturing young BLEOO students to reach their full potential.
The 25th Anniversary celebration stands as a powerful reminder of the enduring values that Accra Academy instills in its students — discipline, leadership, integrity, and service. Through their commitment and unity, BLEOO 2G1 continues to exemplify what it means to “Be Rather Than to Seem.”
