Afrikania Mission Backs Enforcement of Ban on Preaching in Trotros

The Afrikania Mission has expressed support for the enforcement of the ban on religious preaching in commercial vehicles, saying the move will help protect passengers from unsolicited sermons and promote peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths.

In a press release dated October 17, 2026, the Mission raised concerns about instances where preachers use public transport to make derogatory remarks about other religious beliefs, particularly African Traditional Religion.

The head of the Mission, Osofo Komfo Atsu Kove, popularly known as Togbe Sankofa, maintained that public transport should remain a shared space where passengers can travel without being subjected to religious pressure or comments that undermine their beliefs.

The Mission called on the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other relevant authorities to ensure the effective enforcement of the existing ban.

It said the enforcement would help safeguard passengers’ rights, comfort and freedom of religion while reducing the risk of tensions and confrontations among commuters.

The Mission stressed the need for public transport to remain a safe and respectful environment for everyone, regardless of religious affiliation.
