The hardworking Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Ahafo Region, Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel, has been appointed as the new Dean of all Regional Directors of NADMO. The announcement was made during a National Disaster Management Training held in Accra, where his outstanding leadership and dedication to duty were celebrated.
Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel’s appointment is a recognition of his professionalism and consistent contribution to disaster management in the Ahafo Region and beyond. His leadership has strengthened NADMO’s preparedness and response systems, enabling communities to handle emergencies more effectively.
Commitment to Visionary Leadership
Accepting his new role, Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel expressed gratitude to the Director-General of NADMO, Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, and the management team for their trust and confidence in him. He pledged to provide visionary leadership that will unite all regional directors and ensure their collective efforts align with NADMO’s mission to build a disaster-resilient Ghana.
He emphasized his commitment to strengthening collaboration among regional directors, enhancing operational efficiency, and maintaining a unified direction across all sixteen regions. “We must work as one strong, coordinated body that anticipates and responds swiftly to disasters while promoting community resilience,” he stated.
NADMO’s Mission and National Agenda
NADMO’s vision is to build a disaster-resilient Ghana, while its mission is to manage disasters through coordinated efforts from both governmental and non-governmental agencies. The organisation also seeks to develop the capacity of communities to respond effectively to emergencies and to improve livelihoods through social mobilisation, employment generation, and poverty reduction initiatives.
Nana Bonsu noted that achieving these goals requires teamwork, innovation, and continuous public education. He highlighted that proactive disaster prevention measures, rather than reactive responses, must be the focus going forward.
Strengthening Disaster Preparedness
He underscored the importance of continuous training, modern technology, and community-based approaches to strengthen NADMO’s operations. “Our goal is not only to respond to disasters but to prevent them through education, early warning systems, and proper environmental management,” he remarked.
He also commended Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon for his exceptional leadership, which has transformed NADMO into a more effective institution. Nana Bonsu praised Dr. Kuyon’s dedication to strengthening NADMO’s structures and empowering staff nationwide, noting that his leadership has inspired discipline, efficiency, and professionalism.
Call for Unity and Collaboration
In his address, Nana Bonsu urged all sixteen regional directors to work in unity and support one another in implementing effective policies and programs to safeguard lives and properties. He called for a culture of knowledge sharing and cooperation across all regions. “When we work together, our collective strength becomes a shield that protects our communities. This is not an individual effort; it is a shared responsibility,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for strong partnerships with traditional authorities, local assemblies, and civil society organisations. According to him, community participation is the cornerstone of effective disaster management, as local stakeholders are often the first responders during emergencies.
Empowering Communities and Strengthening Resilience
Nana Bonsu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at improving emergency response systems and building climate resilience. He also pledged to collaborate with development partners and stakeholders to mobilize resources for disaster management projects that directly benefit vulnerable communities.
He described his appointment not as a personal triumph, but as a call to greater service and responsibility, adding that he will continue to lead with humility and dedication.
Celebrations Across NADMO
Following the announcement, NADMO staff across Ghana—particularly in the Ahafo Region—expressed joy and pride in his appointment. Many staff members described the recognition as well-deserved, commending his humility, hard work, and passion for public service. His hands-on leadership style, they said, has inspired many to deliver their duties with renewed zeal and integrity.
Under his leadership, the Ahafo Regional NADMO office has achieved notable progress in disaster preparedness, community sensitisation, and coordination with local authorities. His ability to bring people together for a common goal has earned him respect and admiration among NADMO personnel nationwide.
A New Era for Disaster Management
His appointment as Dean of Regional Directors comes at a critical time when Ghana is facing increasing climate-related challenges such as floods, droughts, and other natural hazards. NADMO’s role has become more crucial than ever in ensuring the safety and resilience of communities across the country.
As he takes up this new responsibility, many within NADMO believe that Nana Adu Bonsu Gabriel’s leadership will foster a new era of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. His passion for service and commitment to community development continue to serve as an example to young professionals and public servants across Ghana.
With the unwavering support of the Director-General, Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, and the cooperation of all regional directors, his leadership is expected to strengthen NADMO’s operational mandate and reinforce its role in national development.
