President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed strong confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the 2024 presidential election. He lauded Bawumia’s efforts, highlighting his compelling message and impressive track record, which he believes resonate deeply with the Ghanaian populace, especially the youth.
In a recent interview with France24, President Akufo-Addo shared his positive outlook on Bawumia’s campaign, stating, “I believe that first of all, he is waging a good campaign. He has a message that is resonating especially with the young people in Ghana.”
The president took the opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under his leadership, emphasizing that their nearly eight years in office were marked by significant reforms in key sectors such as education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and the digital economy. These accomplishments, according to Akufo-Addo, provide a strong foundation for Bawumia’s campaign.
“The Ghanaian people know that the nearly eight years we were in office were not wasted. We did a lot, of major reforms in education, in our health system, in our road infrastructure, in the development of the digital economy,” he remarked.
Despite the economic challenges faced during the NPP’s tenure, Akufo-Addo believes that the government’s track record speaks for itself, and the administration’s efforts have laid a solid groundwork for Bawumia to build upon. He pointed out that Bawumia has introduced innovative ideas, particularly focused on engaging the youth in the nation’s development.
“He has brought some new ideas to the surface, especially how the young people can get involved in developing themselves and the nation’s economy,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
In conclusion, Akufo-Addo expressed his unwavering optimism about Bawumia’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, asserting his belief in the vice president’s ability to lead the nation to greater heights.
“That is what is giving me confidence that he is going to win. I believe that he will win,” Akufo-Addo affirmed.
