Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, the President and Founder of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, has been recognized as a ‘Zongo Hero’ at the prestigious Zongo Heroes Awards. The event, organized by Abdul Fatahu Alhassan, popularly known as the Mayor of Nima, took place at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on September 28, 2024.
Ambassador Alhaji Salamu was honored for his outstanding philanthropic contributions, particularly his relentless efforts in mentoring and empowering the unemployed youth through initiatives such as Afro-Arab Microfinance and the Yaa Salaam Opportunity Center.
The citation presented to Ambassador Alhaji Salamu highlighted his visionary ‘One Child, One NHIA Card’ program, a testament to his commitment to improving the lives of Zongo communities. The program, aimed at ensuring healthcare access for every child, has left an indelible mark that will resonate for generations to come.
In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu expressed deep gratitude to the organizers for recognizing his work and dedicated the award to the youth of Zongo communities nationwide. He also took the opportunity to advise the youth to avoid engaging in violence, especially in the lead-up to the upcoming general elections.
“I am deeply grateful for this honor,” he said. “I dedicate this award to all the youth in Zongo communities. Let me take this moment to remind them not to involve themselves in any form of violence before, during, or after the upcoming elections.”
Other notable personalities recognized during the ceremony included Alhaji Ali Maradonna, known for his affiliation with Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and the Ayawaso Council of Zongo Chiefs.
