Asake Becomes Most-Streamed Artist of All Time on Spotify Nigeria

Nigerian music star Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, has made history as the most-streamed artist of all time on Spotify Nigeria, cementing his dominance in the country’s fast-growing digital music space.

The milestone was announced by Spotify as the global streaming platform marked five years of operations in Nigeria. As part of the anniversary celebration, Spotify released data highlighting the top five most-streamed artists of all time in Nigeria, offering insight into listener preferences since the service launched locally.

Asake leads the ranking, ahead of Wizkid in second place and Seyi Vibez in third. Burna Boy occupies the fourth position, while Davido completes the top five. The list reflects the sustained influence of Afrobeats and street-pop artists who have shaped Nigeria’s contemporary sound and driven its global recognition.

Asake’s rise to the top underscores a remarkable run over the past few years. Since breaking into mainstream success, he has consistently delivered chart-topping projects and singles that resonate strongly with young audiences. His fusion of Fuji-inspired vocals, street narratives and Afrobeats rhythms has distinguished him in a competitive industry.

Beyond the artist rankings, Spotify also unveiled the most-streamed songs of all time on Spotify Nigeria. Once again, Asake dominated the chart, with his song “Remember” claiming the number one position.

Ayo Maff and Fireboy’s “Dealer” secured the second spot, followed by Fido’s “Awolowo” in third place. Wizkid’s “Kese” ranked fourth, while Asake made another appearance in fifth place with “Lonely At The Top,” further reinforcing his strong streaming performance.

The impact of Nigerian music was not limited to domestic charts. On Spotify Kenya, Nigerian songs dominated the ranking of the most-streamed songs of all time. Ruger’s “Asiwaju” secured the number one position, followed by Ayra Starr’s “Rush” in second place and Fireboy’s “Bandana” in third. Kenyan singer Bein’s hit song “Inauma” claimed the fourth spot, while Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” ranked fifth.

In Ghana, the trend also reflected the strong cross-border appeal of Nigerian music. On Spotify Ghana, “Wotowoto Seasoning” by Odumodublvck featuring Ghanaian star Black Sherif topped the list of the most-streamed songs of all time. Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” ranked second, while the third, fourth and fifth positions were occupied by songs from Black Sherif, highlighting his commanding presence in the Ghanaian streaming space.

Spotify’s five-year anniversary data demonstrates the rapid growth of streaming culture across Africa and the increasing global competitiveness of African artists. Since launching in Nigeria, the platform has contributed to expanding revenue streams for musicians, enhancing data visibility and enabling artists to reach new markets beyond the continent.

Asake’s record-breaking achievement signals not only personal success but also the continued global rise of Afrobeats and its related sub-genres. With streaming numbers playing an increasingly central role in measuring commercial success, digital platforms have become a key battleground for artists seeking both domestic dominance and international recognition.

Industry observers note that the rankings reflect more than popularity; they show consistency, replay value and audience loyalty. For Asake, topping both the artist and song charts confirms his strong connection with listeners and his ability to produce music that remains relevant long after release.

As Spotify deepens its footprint across Africa, competition among leading artists is expected to intensify. However, for now, Asake stands at the summit of Nigeria’s streaming era, marking a defining chapter in his career and in the country’s evolving music story.
