Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has called on his players to work diligently to meet the high expectations set for the club as they embark on the 2024/25 season. Ogum is confident that with focus and determination, the Porcupine Warriors can challenge for titles by the end of the season.
The previous season was disappointing for Kotoko, who finished 12 points behind champions FC Samartex and narrowly avoided the relegation zone, finishing just five points clear. This lackluster performance led to a major overhaul of the squad. Over 20 players left the club, and more than 11 new signings were brought in to strengthen the team.
Despite these challenges, Kotoko has begun the new Ghana Premier League season on a positive note. The team secured a 1-0 victory against Karela United in their opening game, played in Nalerigu. This win has provided a solid foundation for their campaign, and Ogum is hopeful that the team can build on this momentum.
“We should expect this team to do very well by the end of the season, to play well, and win more games,” Ogum stated. He acknowledged the club’s strong tradition of winning and stressed that both coaching and playing for Kotoko come with significant responsibility. “Kotoko is known for winning games. And if you coach or play for Kotoko, you know that it’s a task you need to accomplish.”
Ogum emphasized the need for hard work and focus, urging his players to avoid complacency. “You must play well and win games. So, yeah, we shouldn’t boast; instead, we need to work harder, stay determined, stay focused, and get the job done,” he added.
Asante Kotoko’s next challenge comes when they host Young Apostles on Sunday in match week three of the Ghana Premier League. The game, set to take place in Obuasi, will be another important test for the team as they seek to maintain their strong start and continue climbing the league table.
The club’s faithful are eager to see a return to form and success after a challenging season. The influx of new talent and the reshuffling of the squad are expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the team, and Ogum’s leadership will be crucial in guiding the players toward their goals.
Asante Kotoko’s ambitious plans for the season reflect their commitment to reclaiming their place among Ghana’s top football clubs. With Ogum’s guidance and the team’s renewed energy, there is optimism that they can achieve their objectives and mount a serious challenge for silverware.
The season ahead promises to be an exciting one for Kotoko, and the supporters are hopeful that the team will deliver the performances expected of them. The upcoming fixtures, including the match against Young Apostles, will be closely watched as the Porcupine Warriors aim to build on their early success and work towards a successful season.
