Asiedu Nketiah Urges NDC Supporters to Reject “Skirt and Blouse” Tactics

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on party supporters to remain steadfast and united in the face of what he described as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “skirt and blouse” campaign tactics.

Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic party faithful at the NDC’s final rally at Zurak Park in Madina on Thursday, December 5, Asiedu Nketiah urged members to vote decisively for both the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and their parliamentary candidates.

Asiedu Nketiah stressed the importance of presenting a unified front, warning against any attempts to split votes. He alleged that the NPP, sensing defeat, had resorted to underhanded tactics to create divisions within the NDC by encouraging voters to support Mahama for president while backing non-NDC parliamentary candidates.

“I want to urge you; all of a sudden the NPP have found a reason to campaign for John Mahama and campaign against our parliamentary candidates. Tell them that we have seen through all their tricks. President Mahama is going back into office with a solid majority in Parliament,” he declared. His words were met with loud cheers and chants of solidarity from the crowd.

The rally marked the culmination of the NDC’s campaign efforts ahead of the December 7 elections. Supporters, draped in the party’s colors of green, red, white, and black, waved flags and sang party songs, creating an atmosphere of determination and hope.

Asiedu Nketiah, affectionately known as “General Mosquito” among party members, used his speech to bolster the morale of NDC supporters. He emphasized the party’s readiness to reclaim power and deliver on its promises to Ghanaians. According to him, a victory for John Mahama and the NDC’s parliamentary candidates would ensure effective governance and the implementation of policies that prioritize the needs of the people.

“I am standing here and have worked with the 276 parliamentary candidates of this party across the country. I am convinced that we are returning to office with a very strong majority in Parliament,” he stated with confidence.

He urged NDC supporters to be vigilant during the voting process, cautioning them to guard against any potential irregularities. He reminded them that their votes represented not just a choice for leadership, but also a commitment to Ghana’s democratic values and the betterment of the nation.

The rally also featured speeches from other high-ranking NDC officials, parliamentary candidates, and grassroots organizers, all of whom reiterated the party’s key campaign messages. The speakers highlighted the NDC’s commitment to job creation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, contrasting it with what they described as the NPP’s failures in governance.

Asiedu Nketiah’s message focused heavily on unity and loyalty to the party. He cautioned against complacency and urged supporters to turn out in large numbers to vote. He argued that a low voter turnout would undermine the NDC’s chances of securing a decisive victory, particularly in parliamentary races where the party aims to achieve a strong majority.

The National Chairman also took the opportunity to address the broader implications of the elections, framing them as a choice between progress under the NDC and stagnation under the NPP. He criticized the ruling party’s track record, pointing to economic challenges, unemployment, and what he described as a lack of transparency and accountability in governance.

“The time has come for us to rescue Ghana from the mismanagement of the NPP. This election is about restoring hope, rebuilding trust, and delivering a better future for every Ghanaian,” he declared, his voice resonating with conviction.

The December 7 elections are expected to be highly competitive, with both the NDC and NPP rallying their supporters for what has been described as one of Ghana’s most consequential elections. While the NPP has campaigned on its achievements in office and the promise of continued development, the NDC has focused on offering an alternative vision that prioritizes social and economic inclusivity.

For Asiedu Nketiah and the NDC leadership, the strategy is clear: mobilize every supporter, ensure a unified vote for both the presidential and parliamentary candidates, and reject any attempts to divide the party’s base. The “skirt and blouse” tactic, as described by Asiedu Nketiah, represents a significant concern for the NDC, as it could dilute their support in critical constituencies.

As the rally drew to a close, the atmosphere was one of determination and optimism. Supporters chanted slogans, waved flags, and pledged their commitment to the party’s cause. Asiedu Nketiah’s rallying cry for unity and vigilance resonated deeply, serving as a reminder of the stakes involved in the upcoming elections.

The NDC’s final rally at Zurak Park was not just a show of strength but also a declaration of intent. For Asiedu Nketiah and his party, the December 7 elections represent an opportunity to reset Ghana’s trajectory and restore the NDC to power. As the party faithful prepare to head to the polls, the message from their National Chairman is clear: vote for Mahama, vote for NDC parliamentary candidates, and reject any attempts to undermine the party’s unity.

With election day fast approaching, the focus now shifts to voter turnout and the ability of both major parties to mobilize their supporters. For the NDC, the emphasis on unity, vigilance, and a strong parliamentary presence underscores their determination to secure a decisive victory.
