Bawumia Urges Unified Support in Asunafo South

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has called on voters in Asunafo South to embrace a unified approach in their voting patterns, moving away from the traditional “skirt-and-blouse” style where they vote differently for presidential and parliamentary candidates.

Dr. Bawumia’s appeal is aimed at ensuring that the party not only wins the presidency but also gains control of the parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Asunafo South has historically supported the NPP in presidential races, but the parliamentary seat has remained in the hands of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), currently held by Eric Opoku. In his recent visit to Sankore, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that if the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Francis Aduse Opoku, is elected, he would play a crucial role in the NPP’s government. The message was clear: a unified vote for both the presidential and parliamentary candidates is essential to amplify the party’s effectiveness in delivering on its promises.

Dr. Bawumia addressed the local stakeholders, encouraging them to commit to this change. “Vote for me because I will improve your lives,” he urged. “In Asunafo South, you always vote for the NPP in the presidential election, but you don’t vote for us in the parliamentary election. I want you to change that in 2024, stop voting skirt-and-blouse, and vote straight for us in both presidential and parliamentary elections.”

The rallying cry for unified support resonated among the attendees. Dr. Bawumia further directed his message specifically to Sankore residents, imploring them to alter the historical voting pattern and support Francis Aduse Opoku, ensuring that he can include him in the next government. “I want the people of Sankore to start changing that pattern and vote for Adusei so that I can add him in my next government. Don’t disappoint us this year; we are both number 1.”

As part of his broader campaign across the Ahafo region, Dr. Bawumia’s agenda on Thursday includes visits to three constituencies: Asunafo South, Asunafo North, and Asutifi South. These engagements are strategic for the NPP, as they are seen as opportunities for Dr. Bawumia to interact with key community figures, including chiefs, business leaders, and party supporters, who can influence broader public opinion. Through these meetings, he aims to share his vision for the nation and gain further support for his party.

The NPP flagbearer’s message is already making waves within the Asunafo South constituency, as demonstrated by the growing endorsement from some residents of Norbekoi, who have pledged continuous support for the NPP. Their endorsement signals a potential shift in the constituency’s voting pattern, aligning with Dr. Bawumia’s call for consistency and solidarity in voting choices for both the presidency and parliament.

As the 2024 election draws near, Dr. Bawumia’s plea to Asunafo South stands as a strategic bid to consolidate power within the region, aiming for the NPP’s success not only at the presidential level but also in parliament. His message is clear: unified support is the path to achieving greater impact and transformative change in the constituency.
