CAF Schools Championship Finals Set for Live Broadcast in Zimbabwe

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the Continental Finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Zimbabwe 2026 will be broadcast live on SuperSport from April 6 to 10 in Harare, marking another significant milestone for grassroots football development across the continent.

The competition, an initiative driven by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, continues to gain prominence as Africa’s largest schools football programme. Since its introduction, the tournament has reached more than three million boys and girls, providing a structured pathway for young talents to develop their skills while combining education with sport.

This year’s Continental Finals will assemble champions from CAF’s six zonal unions, alongside host nation Zimbabwe, competing in both the boys’ and girls’ under-15 categories. The event is expected to showcase some of the most promising young footballers on the continent, reflecting the growing depth of talent at the grassroots level.

Ghana will feature prominently in the girls’ division after securing qualification as zonal champions. Their participation highlights the country’s sustained commitment to nurturing young talent and strengthening its future pipeline in women’s football. The team will be aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage against some of Africa’s best emerging players.

The finals schedule has been structured to maximise viewership and engagement. The Girls’ Final is set to kick off at 12:00 GMT, followed by the Boys’ Final at 13:15 GMT. Both matches will be broadcast live, offering millions of viewers across Africa and beyond the opportunity to witness the next generation of football stars.

CAF believes that the expanded television coverage will play a crucial role in elevating the profile of the competition. Increased visibility is expected to attract greater commercial interest, enhance sponsorship opportunities, and strengthen investment in youth football development initiatives across member associations.

Beyond the competition itself, the tournament carries a strong developmental focus, particularly through its financial rewards. Prize money for the championship is substantial and strategically designed to support long-term growth at the school level.

Winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will receive 300,000 US dollars, while runners-up will be awarded 200,000 dollars. Teams that finish in third place will earn 150,000 dollars. Importantly, these funds are not allocated for personal use but are reserved specifically for development projects within the participating schools.

The prize money is supported by the Motsepe Foundation, reinforcing its commitment to education, youth empowerment, and sustainable sports development across Africa. The funding is expected to contribute to improved sporting infrastructure, equipment provision, and broader educational support within schools.

The girls’ competition will feature a strong lineup, including hosts Zimbabwe, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Guinea, Tanzania, Zambia, and DR Congo. Each team brings a unique style and level of experience, setting the stage for a highly competitive tournament.

In the boys’ category, Zimbabwe will compete against Tanzania, Benin, Morocco, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia, and DR Congo. The diversity of participating nations reflects the wide reach of the programme and its ability to identify and develop talent from different regions of the continent.

CAF has emphasised that the tournament is not only about competition but also about unity, opportunity, and inspiration. By bringing together young players from across Africa, the championship fosters cultural exchange and promotes the values of teamwork, discipline, and respect.

The growing scale of the CAF African Schools Football Championship underscores its importance as a long-term investment in African football. With structured competition, financial support, and increasing global visibility, the initiative is laying a solid foundation for the future of the game on the continent.

As the finals approach, anticipation continues to build among football fans, stakeholders, and participating nations. The event is expected to deliver exciting matches, emerging stars, and memorable moments that reflect the potential of Africa’s next generation.

CAF has called on fans across the continent to follow the action live and support the young talents who represent the future of African football.
