Equatorial Guinea Official Arrested Amid Shocking Sextape Scandal Involving Wives of Notable Figures

Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) in Equatorial Guinea, finds himself at the center of a scandal that has rocked the nation’s political and social spheres. Engonga, a 54-year-old economist, has been arrested following the discovery of over 400 sextapes allegedly featuring encounters with the wives of prominent figures in the country.

This revelation surfaced during a fraud investigation that led to an unannounced search of Engonga’s home and office, where officials stumbled upon a collection of CDs. The recordings contained intimate footage involving high-profile individuals, including his brother’s wife, his cousin, the sister of the country’s President, the wife of the Director General of Police, and numerous wives of ministers.

The discovery of these tapes has caused an uproar, with explicit videos now circulating widely on social media. Engonga reportedly filmed these encounters with the consent of the women involved, a detail that has further complicated the legal ramifications of his case.

According to Ahora EG, a local media outlet, the former ANIF Director General, also known as “Bello,” had maintained sexual relationships with multiple women, including married ones, and recorded these moments.

The report highlights the particularly controversial nature of the scenes, with some encounters taking place in Engonga’s government office, symbolically close to the national flag. This act, seen as a disrespectful breach of decorum, has not only shocked the public but also drawn stern criticism from the Equatorial Guinean government.

The Executive has since issued statements expressing its intent to address the scandal and repair the tarnished image of the country.

In response, the government has initiated measures to reinforce ethical standards among public officials, emphasizing that officials are expected to uphold a respectful and dignified environment within both public and private spheres.

The scandal has sparked widespread debate on social media, with videos of Engonga widely recognized as “Bello” now circulating, showing him in compromising situations with several women. Notably, these encounters were reportedly consensual, exempting Engonga from potential charges related to sexual violence. The women involved included not only high-profile wives but also prominent single women in Equatorial Guinea. The videos showcase scenes in various settings, including hotels, residences, and his office at the Ministry of Finance.

Commenting on the sextapes, Nzang Nguema, the Attorney General of Equatorial Guinea, clarified that the nation’s laws do not penalize consensual sexual relations, except in cases where coercion or violence is involved. Nguema underscored the importance of victims coming forward if they experience sexual abuse or assault, emphasizing that only through their reports can authorities effectively address such violations. Furthermore, Nguema highlighted the health risks associated with the scandal, particularly the potential for disease transmission, which poses a broader threat to the community beyond those directly involved.

This explosive scandal has prompted swift government intervention. On Monday, Equatorial Guinea announced an immediate suspension of any officials found to have engaged in sexual activities within government offices. This move aligns with the government’s “zero tolerance” stance toward conduct that undermines public service integrity.

Vice President Nguema Mangue, commenting on the scandal, condemned the behavior as a blatant disregard for the Public Ethics Law and Code of Conduct. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), he reaffirmed the importance of ethics and respect within government administration.

He stressed that such irresponsible actions endanger public trust, a foundation on which the nation’s institutions rely.

The repercussions of this scandal continue to unfold, as authorities in Equatorial Guinea grapple with the implications of the actions of a senior official entrusted with safeguarding financial investigations.

The leaked footage and ensuing controversy have shaken the nation, and the government’s efforts to restore confidence in its public institutions reflect the seriousness with which it views the scandal’s impact on its image and ethical standards.
