In a heartfelt gesture to give back to the community, Eventree Communications, supported by a host of generous sponsors, has launched its Shawarma Charity initiative—bringing smiles to hundreds of Muslims and hospital patients across Accra.
The two-day outreach, held on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th April 2025, was organized in collaboration with brands such as De-Luxy Paint, Sintex Poly Tanks, Heveans, Pot One Restaurant, Musafast Virgin Mother Coconut Oil, and DPS Pipes, among others. Their shared goal was simple but powerful: to uplift spirits through food, love, and compassion.
The first phase of the campaign kicked off at the Cantonment Mosque, where members of the Eventree Communications team and representatives from the sponsor companies distributed hot shawarmas to Muslim worshippers after Jummah prayers. The team chose this moment to honor the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan—a time centered on reflection, charity, and unity.
“We wanted to share something warm and special with our Muslim brothers and sisters,” said Hewale, Public Relations Officer for Eventree Communications. “The smiles, gratitude, and prayers we received in return were more than enough reward.”
On the following day, the mission of compassion extended to five major hospitals in Accra. With the support of beloved Ghanaian actor Akrobeto, the team visited the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), 37 Military Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra Children’s Hospital, and Ridge Hospital. Their focus was on reaching children in pediatric wards and other vulnerable patients who could use a moment of joy during their recovery.
“We believe food is more than just nourishment. It’s comfort, it’s care, and sometimes, it’s the boost someone needs to feel a little better,” Hewale explained. “The Shawarma Charity initiative is our way of saying, ‘We see you. We care. And we’re cheering you on.’”
In total, over 5,000 shawarmas were distributed during the two-day campaign. Volunteers moved from ward to ward, delivering meals with warm smiles and encouraging words. The team noted the enthusiastic response from both patients and healthcare workers, many of whom expressed their appreciation.
Dr. Ophelia Ganyaglo, senior medical officer at UGMC, commended the team for their initiative. “Acts of kindness like this go a long way in supporting emotional recovery. We thank Eventree Communications and their sponsors for thinking of our patients.”
Hewale also took a moment to praise the hospital staff. “We were truly impressed by the dedication of the doctors and nurses. Their compassion and hard work deserve all the recognition.”
Akrobeto, who joined the team in spreading cheer, shared a message of peace and unity: “Let’s continue to support one another, not just in big ways but in small ways too. Live in peace and let love lead.”
The Shawarma Charity drive is not a one-time event. Eventree Communications has announced plans to make it an annual campaign, with plans to expand it to other regions of Ghana. Kumasi has already expressed interest in hosting the next edition.
“We’re just getting started,” Hewale said. “As long as we have the support of our sponsors and the passion to serve, we’ll keep spreading love, one shawarma at a time.”
