Ghana Police Arrest Key Suspect in Mamobi Political Clash

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Fatawu Ibrahim, also known as “Fatau Motorway,” a suspect linked to the recent violent clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Mamobi, Accra. The incident, which took place on October 13, 2024, reportedly left two individuals with gunshot injuries and has stirred national concern.

The arrest was facilitated by widely circulated video footage capturing Ibrahim during the altercation, in which he was seen brandishing a firearm. This footage played a critical role in enabling authorities to identify and track down the suspect. The video quickly spread across various media platforms, drawing significant public attention and underscoring the severity of the incident.

Following his apprehension, Ibrahim is now in police custody. The Ghana Police Service, in an official statement, confirmed that the suspect would be presented before the court in due course. The statement also emphasized that investigations are ongoing to fully uncover the details surrounding the incident. As authorities dig deeper into the case, the aim is to understand what led to the altercation and to determine any further actions needed to maintain order and security, especially as Ghana approaches its December elections.

This development underscores the police’s commitment to addressing politically motivated violence and ensuring accountability for any acts that threaten public safety. Ibrahim’s arrest has already been lauded as a significant step toward deterring further clashes and promoting peace between rival political supporters.
