Wanderlust Ghana, the adventurous travel group known for its historic 10,000 km road trip from Accra to London, is set to embark on another ambitious expedition in 2024. The team, which previously traveled across two continents and twelve countries in just sixteen days, is now preparing for an even more challenging journey. This year, they aim to travel through thirty countries on three continents over three months, covering a total distance of 30,000 kilometers.
At the official launch ceremony for the 2024 expedition, Kwabena Peprah, a key member of the Wanderlust Ghana team, shared details about their upcoming journey. The adventure is set to begin this month, with the group partnering with the Ghana Tourism Authority to promote tourism in Ghana. “The collaboration aims to highlight Ghana’s potential as a vibrant tourist destination, with VisitGhana.com tags on our vehicles and websites,” he explained.
Peprah further emphasized the importance of showcasing Ghana’s rich culture, heritage, and natural beauty to the world to attract more tourists to the country, particularly for the “December in Ghana” campaign. Unlike their previous expedition, which included eleven men and one woman, this year’s journey will feature only six members from their private club. They will be traveling in three cars, with participants including Kwabena Peprah, Kwame Peprah, Franklin Peters, Kojo N., Richard Osei-Anim, and Kwadwo Saka Addo-Mensah.
“This year, we want to explore the West Coast,” Peprah revealed. “We plan to travel through Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. From there, we’ll continue through Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco into Europe. In Spain, the goal is to drive up to Berlin in Germany and then down through Austria, heading to Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and finally Dubai.”
He stressed that Wanderlust Ghana remains a private entity and NGO, composed of close friends who support one another. While the trip promises excitement, it also comes with significant challenges. Peprah pointed out the high costs involved, particularly for tolls, logistics, accommodation, and food. He added, “We may face tire blowouts or engine failures, but that’s all part of life. We’ll deal with it when we get there.”
For those eager to keep up with the journey, Wanderlust Ghana has provided a live link on Pebble, allowing followers to experience the adventure in real time during the 30-day expedition.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), as a partner for this trip, has also featured VisitGhana.com tags on their promotional materials. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, expressed excitement about the partnership. He noted, “When we heard about Wanderlust’s previous 10,000 km trip to London, we thought it was a missed opportunity.” The Authority then engaged with the group, and both parties found common ground in their desire to promote Ghana.
Agyeman highlighted that the collaboration presents a unique opportunity to showcase Ghana’s culture, heritage, and influence in the countries the team will pass through. “We will monitor three key metrics: the mileage we gain from people following the journey on our platform, the number of tourists visiting Ghana in December, and the unquantifiable but important soft power impact,” he explained.
As Wanderlust Ghana gears up for this new and exciting adventure, the world is watching, eager to see how the group will once again challenge the status quo and inspire others to explore the world through the thrill of overland travel.
