Ghana’s Zinabu Issah narrowly missed out on a medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 final at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris, finishing in ninth place. Issah achieved a personal best throw of 8.84 meters, improving from her 8.67 meters in the qualifiers. Despite her commendable performance, it was not enough to secure a podium finish.
The gold medal was claimed by Djelal Safia of Algeria, while Xu Mian from China won silver. Algeria’s Saifi Nassima took the bronze medal. This result marks the second time Zinabu Issah has missed out on a medal at the Paralympics, having previously fallen short in the Discus event.
The focus now shifts to Tahiru Haruna, who is set to compete in para-powerlifting on Sunday, September 8. Haruna’s performance will be eagerly anticipated as Ghana continues its campaign at the Games.
Ghana’s Paralympic delegation included four athletes. Alongside Issah, Patricia Kyeremaa and Frederick Assor also competed in Taekwondo and Para Cycling, respectively, but have since exited their respective events. The team’s performance in these events reflects their dedication and skill, despite the challenges faced.
As the Paralympic Games progress, the Ghanaian team remains hopeful for a strong showing from Haruna, with the nation rallying behind its athletes in pursuit of glory.
