The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), led by its President, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, recently paid a heartfelt visit to Rev. Stephen Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, to express their condolences on the passing of his mother, Mrs. Deborah Wengam.
Apostle Nyamekye, who also serves as the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, led the NEC delegation to extend support and sympathy to Rev. Wengam and his family during this time of grief.
Upon arrival, Apostle Nyamekye conveyed the Council’s deep sorrow over the loss and offered words of comfort on behalf of the GPCC. He expressed that the Council stood firmly by Rev. Wengam in this time of personal loss, highlighting the unity and support that exist within the Christian leadership in Ghana. To further express the Council’s sympathy, Apostle Nyamekye invited First Vice President Bishop Gordon Kisseih to share a message of consolation with the bereaved family.
Bishop Kisseih spoke with compassion, reminding the family that, for those who follow the Christian faith, death is not the end but rather a passage to God’s eternal kingdom. He explained that, within the faith journey, death is seen as a transition, a meaningful step into God’s presence. He encouraged the family to hold onto this belief, emphasizing that Mrs. Wengam’s passing was indeed a “gain” within the Christian understanding of life and eternity. His words were meant to inspire hope in the family, affirming that Mrs. Wengam’s legacy and faith would continue to resonate through her loved ones and the people she touched.
The GPCC delegation, deeply moved by the occasion, joined the family in a solemn moment of prayer. Apostle Nyamekye led the prayer, accompanied by the Council’s Vice Presidents and members of the NEC. They collectively asked for strength, comfort, and peace for Rev. Wengam and his family as they prepared to bid farewell to their beloved mother. Through prayer, the NEC sought to uplift the family spiritually, reaffirming their belief in the power of faith to provide solace during such times of loss.
In a symbolic gesture of respect, Apostle Nyamekye and the other Vice Presidents of the GPCC took turns signing the book of condolence on behalf of the Council. This act was not only a formality but also a mark of the Council’s shared grief and support for the bereaved family. By signing the condolence book, they recorded their heartfelt sympathies and expressed the collective sorrow of the Christian community for Rev. Wengam’s loss. The visit underscored the sense of solidarity among the GPCC members and their commitment to offering comfort to one of their own.
During the visit, a family representative informed the GPCC leadership of the arrangements for Mrs. Wengam’s funeral. The family announced that the funeral would take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with the specific venue to be confirmed closer to the date. This update provided the GPCC delegation with the opportunity to make note of the details, ensuring that the leadership and members of the GPCC could make necessary arrangements to attend and support Rev. Wengam on the day of the funeral.
Rev. Stephen Wengam expressed his deep gratitude to the NEC delegation for their visit and the overwhelming support they extended to him and his family. He spoke with admiration and love for his mother, Mrs. Deborah Wengam, paying her a glowing tribute. Rev. Wengam reflected on his mother’s influence on his life and described her as a strong and disciplined woman who played a pivotal role in shaping his character and guiding him on his spiritual path. He shared with the delegation how his mother’s steadfast guidance and values prepared him to fulfil his divine calling as a servant of God. He spoke of her dedication to the faith and the principles she instilled in him, recognizing her as a major influence on his journey to become a leader within the Christian community.
Rev. Wengam’s words offered a glimpse into the profound impact his mother had on his life, not only as a parent but as a source of spiritual inspiration. He acknowledged that her love and discipline had shaped him into the person he is today, equipping him with the resilience and devotion needed to fulfil God’s purpose. This tribute underscored the legacy of Mrs. Wengam, who was remembered not only as a mother but as a woman of faith who played an instrumental role in supporting her son’s journey.
As he expressed his appreciation to the NEC delegation, Rev. Wengam conveyed how deeply touched he was by their show of solidarity. He described the GPCC’s visit as an exceptional act of love and respect, one that provided him with immeasurable comfort in this difficult time. The gesture from the GPCC underscored the strong bonds within Ghana’s Christian leadership and reflected the Council’s commitment to standing by each other in times of sorrow.
The visit by Apostle Nyamekye and the NEC delegation highlighted the GPCC’s dedication to fostering a sense of community among its members. It demonstrated the Council’s belief in unity, compassion, and support, especially when members face personal challenges. The GPCC’s expression of condolences to Rev. Wengam served as a reminder of the shared values that bind the Christian leadership in Ghana, emphasizing their role not only as spiritual leaders but as a close-knit community that stands together in both joy and sorrow.
The upcoming funeral of Mrs. Deborah Wengam, scheduled for January 25, 2025, will be a significant occasion for Rev. Wengam and his family.
