International Organisation Honours Cash Media for Championing Anti-Drug Campaign in Ahafo Region

An international nonprofit organisation, Chambas Team of the Red Alert Campaign, has honoured Ahafo-based media outlet Cash Media for its exceptional dedication to combating drug abuse and helping shape a healthier future for young people in Ghana. The recognition highlights the growing importance of local media in driving social change across Africa, particularly in the fight against the rising abuse of hard drugs among the youth.

The Red Alert Campaign, founded and convened by Kamal-Deen Abdellah IBN Chambas, is a global nonprofit initiative committed to raising awareness about drug abuse, advocating for prevention strategies, and empowering communities to protect young people from substance-related harm. Over the years, the organisation has executed extensive outreach programmes, community dialogues, and media-driven campaigns across Africa.

A Recognition of Impactful Partnership

During a brief ceremony in the Ahafo Region, Kamal-Deen Abdellah IBN Chambas presented Cash Media with a Certificate of Honour, acknowledging the outlet’s critical role in amplifying the organisation’s efforts. He commended the station for its consistent coverage, education-focused discussions, and strong community engagement.

In a statement, Kamal-Deen praised Cash Media for becoming a powerful ally in the fight against drug abuse:

“Your voice, platform and contribution played a vital role in educating and inspiring thousands of young people. We deeply appreciate your partnership in shaping a drug-free future for our youth.”

He emphasized that the Red Alert campaign relies heavily on credible partnerships with influential media houses like Cash Media, whose reach and reputation enable the spread of life-saving information across Ghanaian communities.

Cash Media’s Commitment to Youth Empowerment

The certificate was received by Francis Agyapong Nimpong, popularly known on air and in the region as Cashier, who serves as the Executive Director of Cash Media. Beaming with pride, he described the honour as a motivation to intensify the station’s advocacy work.

According to him, the media house is driven by a mission to protect the youth of Ahafo and Ghana at large from the devastating consequences of drug addiction. He acknowledged that the award was not just for Cash Media alone but also for the wider Ahafo community that continues to support their educational programmes and public interest campaigns.

Cashier used the occasion to address the youth directly, urging them to avoid the temptation of addictive substances including opioids (Red), marijuana, cocaine, synthetic drugs, and emerging illicit substances that have infiltrated communities across Ghana and Africa.

He stressed that drug abuse is swiftly becoming one of the most dangerous threats to Africa’s future—destroying potential, breaking families, and limiting opportunities for the continent’s next generation.

Strengthening the Anti-Drug Movement in Ahafo

Over recent years, several communities within the Ahafo Region have raised concerns about the increase in the use of addictive drugs among young people, particularly school-aged children and unemployed youth. According to local reports, peer pressure, unemployment, lack of supervision, and the easy availability of illicit substances have contributed to the growing problem.

Cash Media has been at the forefront of raising alarms and calling for community-level action. Through programmes such as public education segments, youth dialogues, interviews with health professionals, and live community engagements, the media house has become a trusted platform for advocacy.

The Red Alert Campaign’s recognition underscores the broader reality that sustainable change requires media leaders who are committed to speaking out—and Cash Media has proven to be one of such champions.

A Pan-African Perspective: Media as a Force for Social Change

Across the African continent, drug abuse among young people has become a pressing public health concern. From West Africa to Southern Africa, communities are battling the harmful spread of substances such as “kush”, tramadol, codeine mixtures, crystal meth (“ice”), and synthetic opioids.

International health experts have warned that Africa risks facing a youth crisis if governments, civil society, and media institutions do not act swiftly. This makes community-centred initiatives like the Red Alert Campaign—and its collaboration with media outlets like Cash Media—critical components of Africa’s collective response.

In many African countries, the media remains the strongest link between national policy and community awareness. Local radio stations, especially those in rural and semi-urban areas, are essential in delivering lifesaving information to hard-to-reach populations. Cash Media’s recognition demonstrates the power of African media in shaping healthier societies and empowering communities to resist harmful trends.

Moving Forward: A Renewed Commitment to a Drug-Free Ahafo

Cash Media has affirmed its readiness to continue its partnership with the Red Alert Campaign and expand its efforts across Ahafo. Executive Director Cashier announced that the station will soon introduce new youth-focused programmes, interactive forums, and collaborative initiatives with schools, opinion leaders, and health experts.

He further called on traditional authorities, parents, district assemblies, and local institutions to join hands in tackling the issue holistically. According to him, a drug-free Ahafo is achievable only through collective responsibility.

“Cash Media will continue to champion the fight against drug abuse to make the Ahafo Region great,” he promised.

A Call to Action

The Red Alert Campaign’s honouring of Cash Media serves as a reminder that every sector—media, families, institutions, and young people themselves—has a role to play. With Africa witnessing rapid population growth, the future belongs to the youth. Protecting them from the dangers of drug abuse is a Pan-African mission, one that demands unity, awareness, and consistent advocacy.

As Cash Media continues its journey of empowering its community, the recognition stands as an inspiration to other media houses across the continent to take up similar causes and amplify the voice of Africa’s youth.
