James Mireku Announces New Single “High on Life” Featuring Calvin Rodgers, Set for July 15 Release

James Mireku, son of legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Elder Dr. Akwasi Mireku, has officially announced the release of his latest single titled High on Life, a genre-fusing anthem that pays homage to both Ghanaian highlife and contemporary gospel. The new track is set to be released on July 15, 2025 a date that carries personal significance for the artist as it also marks his birthday.

In a personal message shared with his fans, James Mireku described High on Life as a deeply intentional musical journey, emerging after a season of reflection and creative preparation following his last release, Africa is Home. With this new offering, he seeks to explore what he describes as the “meeting point between Chicago’s gospel drumming tradition and Ghana’s highlife heartbeat.”

“After a period of creative preparation following my last release Africa is Home, I’m excited to share something new with you all,” Mireku shared. “High on Life is my latest single a unique blend of Ghanaian highlife and contemporary gospel energy. It explores the question: What happens when Chicago’s gospel drumming tradition meets Ghana’s highlife heartbeat?”

A key highlight of the single is the collaboration with world-renowned drummer Calvin Rodgers, whose masterful approach to gospel drumming has earned him global acclaim. Mireku praised Rodgers’ contribution as vital to the overall sound and energy of the track.

“I had the honor of collaborating with the legendary Calvin Rodgers on this track,” he said. “His artistry and soul on the drums truly elevate the sound and bring the vision to life.”

With High on Life, James Mireku not only celebrates his own musical evolution but also paves the way for the release of his forthcoming album titled I Belong Here, which is expected later this year. The album, he explained, is a culmination of deep personal reflection and artistic exploration, built around themes of identity, belonging, and the fusion of local and global sounds.

“After Africa is Home, I spent time reflecting and crafting a body of work that represents my musical journey rooted in Ghanaian heritage yet open to global conversations,” he said.

He described the upcoming album I Belong Here as “more than an album, it’s a statement about Home, Identity, and Musical Unity.”

As anticipation builds for both the single and the full project, Mireku extended gratitude to his listeners and supporters for being part of his evolving musical journey.

“Thank you for being part of this journey. Blessings always,” he concluded.

High on Life will be available on all major digital streaming platforms starting July 15, and fans of gospel, highlife, and world music alike are being encouraged to experience this unique cross-cultural celebration of rhythm, soul, and spiritual depth.
