Maggi Waakye Summit Lights Up Accra with Food, Culture and Community

Accra witnessed an explosion of flavour, culture and togetherness as the Maggi Waakye Summit returned in grand style, reaffirming its place as Ghana’s biggest celebration of waakye. The much-anticipated festival took place on December 26, 2025, at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, drawing more than 10,000 food lovers and featuring over 70 vendors from across the country.

The Waakye Festival is an annual event that brings people together to patronise waakye from a wide range of vendors while connecting and bonding over Ghana’s most popular indigenous meal. Over the years, it has grown into a major cultural and culinary gathering that celebrates not just food, but community, identity and shared experiences.

The summit transformed the park into a lively hub of food, music, art, games and social interaction, with waakye taking centre stage. Patrons enjoyed different styles of waakye, served with rich stews and shito, while soaking in an atmosphere filled with festive energy and unforgettable vibes.

Speaking at the event, Mark Okyere-Mensah, Category Manager for Culinary at , said the company’s participation was driven by its commitment to promoting good food and quality living, especially during the festive season.

He explained that food plays a vital role in bringing people together during celebrations, making events like the Waakye Summit a natural platform for Nestlé to engage consumers. According to him, wherever food is prepared and shared, the company aims to be actively present, particularly through its seasoning category. This shared vision led to Nestlé Ghana partnering with Le Leon, the main organiser of the Waakye Summit.

Now in its seventh edition, the Maggi Waakye Summit has continued to grow in size and impact. Organisers say lessons from previous editions were carefully applied to make this year’s event bigger, more exciting and more engaging, with a clear target of reaching over 10,000 people by the close of the festival.

Magherita Amon, Brands Manager for at Nestlé Ghana, underscored the brand’s strong connection to waakye preparation. She noted that Maggi plays a key role in bringing out the flavour of waakye stew and shito, stressing that authentic waakye is incomplete without the seasoning.

According to her, Maggi enhances taste and aroma, delivering the special flavour many Ghanaians associate with well-prepared waakye. She added that for anyone seeking that authentic waakye experience, Maggi remains an essential ingredient.

Nestlé Ghana also highlighted its reputation for quality, stating that every product associated with the brand meets high standards. The festival, organisers said, was not only a celebration of food but also an opportunity to offer consumers quality products and memorable experiences as the year comes to an end.

Beyond food, the summit created a space for connection, bringing together vendors, families and communities from different backgrounds. Through shared meals and entertainment, Maggi reinforced its identity as a family seasoning and a household name that resonates across Ghanaian communities.

As the curtains fell on the 2025 edition, the Maggi Waakye Summit once again proved that waakye is more than just a meal; it is a cultural symbol that unites people, celebrates heritage and strengthens community bonds.
