Prof. David Asamoah, the Head of the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Business, has been elected as the university’s new Pro Vice Chancellor. In a competitive election, Prof. Asamoah secured 436 out of 918 votes cast. His closest competitor, Prof. Charles Frimpong, received 298 votes, while Prof. Mrs. Michelle Korkor Essandor garnered 186 votes.
Prof. Asamoah has been an integral part of KNUST for the past 17 years. His academic journey at the university began with his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and a PhD in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, all from KNUST.
His teaching and research interests encompass Supply Chain Management and Information Systems, with a focus on Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Digitalization and Digital Transformation, Data-driven Supply Chains, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, and Supply Chain Disruption and Resilience. Prof. Asamoah has contributed significantly to his field, co-authoring numerous publications in prestigious journals such as IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, the International Journal of Logistics Management, Communication of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), Information Systems Frontiers, International Journal of Information Management, and Information Technology for Development. He has also been featured in various conference proceedings and book chapters from notable conferences including the Decision Sciences Institute Annual Conference, Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), and International Federation of Information Processors Conference (IFIP).
In addition to his scholarly work, Prof. Asamoah is a Research Fellow and Senior Technical Advisor at the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chains – Africa (CARISCA), a USAID-sponsored project in collaboration with Arizona State University and KNUST. His service extends beyond academia, having served as Deputy Chair of the Governing Council for the Institute of Project Management Professionals, a Faculty Advisory Board member for Sunyani Technical University, and a panel assessor for accreditation processes at various tertiary institutions in Ghana. He has also functioned as an External Assessor for faculty promotions at multiple universities across Ghana.
On the international stage, Prof. Asamoah has contributed as an organizing committee member and mini-track co-chair for several international conferences, such as AMCIS and IFIP, and as an ad-hoc reviewer for reputable supply chain and information systems journals. He is a member of the Editorial Review Boards for the Africa Journal of Management and the Journal of African Business.
Prof. Asamoah’s administrative experience is extensive, having served as Vice-Dean of KNUST School of Business for two academic terms and as Head of Department for three consecutive terms. In these roles, he has facilitated the advancement of colleagues in terms of terminal degrees and academic ranks. His commitment to student satisfaction is evident through his oversight of excellent teaching and the organization of seminars, field trips, and workshops to provide practical experiences for students. Since 2017, he has also supervised several Ph.D. students.
As KNUST’s Host, Prof. Asamoah successfully secured funding from the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) in both 2017 and 2022. These projects fostered collaboration with Ghanaian professors from various U.S. universities, focusing on enhancing faculty publications in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and supporting the university’s MPhil and PhD programs.
Before his academic career, Prof. Asamoah co-founded Asamoah & Williams Consulting, specializing in Management Consulting. With over a decade of experience, he provided consulting services in financial management and microfinance software implementation. His esteemed clients included the World Bank, GIZ, and the Ministry of Finance-Ghana, contributing to various development projects in the financial sector.

His appointment is expected to bring a wealth of experience and a forward-thinking approach to the university’s leadership.
