Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, has spoken candidly about a deeply painful relationship experience that left him emotionally scarred and full of regret, despite the expensive sacrifices he made in the name of love.
Speaking during a recent TikTok livestream with popular influencer Sandra Benede, the skit maker described love as “cruel,” revealing that he strongly relates to the emotional turmoil currently facing TikTok star Peller following his public breakup with his girlfriend, Jarvis.
Sabinus’ comments come amid growing public discussion around Peller’s emotional outbursts, online rants and reports of a ghastly car accident that allegedly occurred after the breakup. While many Nigerians have criticised Peller for his public reactions, Sabinus urged the public to show compassion, insisting that heartbreak can push people to the edge.
According to the comedian, love has a way of breaking even the strongest people, especially when genuine emotions and heavy sacrifices are involved. He explained that he has personally walked the same painful path Peller is currently on, and therefore understands the confusion, anger and emotional instability that often follow a major heartbreak.
In a startling revelation, Sabinus disclosed that he once bought a Range Rover for a woman he loved deeply, believing that his generosity and commitment would secure the relationship. Instead, the relationship ended abruptly, leaving him devastated and regretful over the decision.
“Love is cruel,” Sabinus said during the livestream. “I have been in Peller’s situation before. I once gifted a girl a Range Rover because of love. She later left me. I regretted it. So nobody should blame Peller.”
His statement quickly sparked reactions online, with many social media users expressing shock at the level of sacrifice he made, while others praised his honesty for shedding light on the emotional realities men often face in relationships but rarely speak about publicly.
Sabinus stressed that his message was not about material loss, but about the emotional damage that comes when love is not reciprocated in the way one expects. He explained that when someone invests emotionally and financially into a relationship, the collapse of that bond can feel like a total personal failure.
He further noted that society often expects men, especially public figures, to “man up” and move on quickly after heartbreak, without acknowledging the deep psychological impact such experiences can have. According to him, this pressure often worsens the situation, pushing people into depression, reckless behaviour or emotional breakdowns.
Drawing parallels with Peller’s situation, Sabinus said the TikTok star deserves empathy rather than ridicule. He explained that public figures experience heartbreak just like anyone else, but with the added pressure of public scrutiny and online judgement.
“People are laughing at Peller, but love can mess you up badly,” he added. “When it hits you, you don’t think straight. That is why people should stop blaming him and instead pray for him.”
Sabinus’ revelation has also reignited conversations about love, money and boundaries in modern relationships. Many commentators have argued that while love involves sacrifice, extreme financial gestures do not guarantee loyalty or commitment, and can sometimes blur judgment.
Others believe the comedian’s experience highlights the importance of emotional intelligence, self-worth and caution when making life-altering decisions in the heat of romance.
Beyond his comments on heartbreak, the livestream also resurfaced discussions about Sabinus’ personal life. In December 2025, the comedian confirmed during another TikTok livestream that his marriage to his wife and the mother of his child, Ciana Chapman, had ended.
The couple reportedly got married in a private ceremony in 2023, but the union lasted just over a year. Sabinus did not go into details about the reasons behind the separation, but he acknowledged that the experience was painful and challenging.
Despite the setbacks in his personal life, Sabinus remains one of Nigeria’s most successful and recognisable comedians, known for turning everyday struggles into relatable humour. His willingness to speak openly about heartbreak has earned him sympathy from fans who see his story as a reflection of real-life experiences many people go through silently.
Relationship experts have also weighed in on the issue, noting that Sabinus’ story serves as a reminder that love should be built on mutual respect, understanding and emotional balance, rather than excessive material expectations.
As reactions continue to pour in, many Nigerians have commended Sabinus for using his platform to promote empathy and emotional awareness, especially among young men who often suffer in silence after failed relationships.
For now, the comedian says he has learned valuable lessons from his past and hopes his story will encourage others to approach love with wisdom, patience and self-respect.
