Accra, March 23, 2026 — Serene Insurance LTD, a member of the First Sky Group and a leading general insurance company, has announced a significant support package towards the participation of Ghana’s national men’s football team, the Black Stars, at the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
The package comprises GHS2 million in cash and a GHS20 million aggregate limit Group Personal Accident Insurance cover for the period June 1 to July 31, 2026. The policy provides GHS100,000 cover for each member of the playing body, GHS30,000 for each member of the technical team, and GHS10,000 for each member of sponsored supporters.
The 24 hour insurance policy covers bodily injury or death resulting from accidents during the tournament period, offering comprehensive protection to all insured categories.
This announcement follows Ghana’s national fundraising campaign ahead of the tournament, which was officially launched by President John Mahama at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. The campaign seeks to raise US$30 million to fund Ghana’s participation in the World Cup as well as four international friendly matches.
Commenting on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong stated that the Black Stars remain a symbol of national pride, and Serene Insurance is honoured to support the team through both financial and insurance backing.
She noted that the company’s contribution reflects its commitment to supporting talent, securing futures, and celebrating national achievements.
Mrs. Boampong added that the support goes beyond financial assistance, emphasizing that the company is committed to protecting dreams, securing glory, and safeguarding Ghana’s pride as the team competes on the global stage.
She further urged Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they prepare to represent the nation in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, expressing confidence in Ghana’s potential to achieve success at the tournament.
The fundraising launch event brought together key stakeholders from the sports, entertainment, and business sectors, including former Black Stars players, musicians, and corporate leaders.
The event also featured the unveiling of a World Cup raffle promotion aimed at generating additional revenue to support the campaign. Several major financial pledges were made by corporate organizations and individuals, particularly from the mining and entertainment industries.
