Shatta Wale donates $100,000 to boost Black Stars World Cup campaign

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has contributed $100,000 to the Black Stars World Cup fundraising campaign, reinforcing national efforts to adequately prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The donation was announced on Friday night during a high-level fundraising event held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra. The event brought together government officials, corporate leaders, and influential individuals, all united in support of Ghana’s senior national team ahead of the global tournament.

Shatta Wale’s contribution adds to the growing pool of financial commitments aimed at ensuring the Black Stars are well-resourced both on and off the pitch. His gesture highlights the increasing involvement of Ghana’s entertainment industry in national initiatives, particularly those tied to sports and national pride.

These financial commitments are expected to ease the burden on the Ghana Football Association as it finalises logistical arrangements for the tournament. Costs associated with international travel, accommodation, training camps, and other operational needs continue to rise, making such support critical.

President John Dramani Mahama, who officially launched the fundraising campaign, used the platform to underscore the importance of collective national effort in ensuring a successful World Cup outing. He also announced that the government would support interested television stations in acquiring broadcasting rights for the tournament.

According to the President, this move is intended to ensure that Ghanaians across the country have access to live coverage of the World Cup, allowing them to follow and support the Black Stars throughout the competition.
