Zongo Transformation on the Horizon as Gibrine Group, Afro-Arab Leaders Join Forces

In a powerful show of unity and shared vision for the transformation of Ghana’s Zongo communities, the President of Gibrine Group, Alhaji Gibrine Issah Tutu, and the President of Afro-Arab Group, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, held a high-level meeting on Friday, August 2, 2025, to explore collaborative solutions for long-term development.

The meeting, which took place at the Afro-Arab Group headquarters in Accra, began as a courtesy call but quickly evolved into a meaningful dialogue centered around youth empowerment, health infrastructure, sustainability, and mentorship. The two prominent entrepreneurs, both known for their grassroots impact and Zongo origins, discussed how strategic partnerships could create lasting change for disadvantaged communities.

Alhaji Gibrine, who arrived with members of his executive team, expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Salamu for recognizing the efforts of the Gibrine Group in the areas of community service and economic growth. He noted that such recognition not only motivates his team but also affirms the company’s mission to invest in underserved populations.

He went on to outline the diverse sectors in which the Gibrine Group operates, including transportation, agriculture, construction, and health. A key highlight of his presentation was the company’s growing focus on modernizing agriculture with technology such as drones, GPS-driven equipment, and mechanized tools. He emphasized that innovation must go hand-in-hand with inclusivity, particularly when it comes to communities often left out of Ghana’s broader development narrative.

The most striking revelation from Alhaji Gibrine, however, was his plan to establish an Islamic Institute of Health and Allied Sciences in a Zongo community. The proposed facility aims to produce qualified health professionals while incorporating Islamic values and cultural sensitivity into its curriculum.

“We cannot afford to leave our youth behind,” he said with conviction. “This institute is not just about education; it’s about empowerment and identity. We want to train nurses, lab technicians, and health workers who serve not only professionally but also understand the unique needs of their communities.”

Ambassador Salamu Amadu warmly welcomed the idea and praised Alhaji Gibrine for his commitment to socially responsible business practices. As a longtime advocate for youth empowerment and the founder of the Yaa Salaam Opportunity Center, Ambassador Salamu acknowledged the urgent need for such infrastructure in Zongo communities.

“I’m deeply inspired by your vision,” he remarked. “An ultramodern institute like this can transform not only healthcare access but also create employment and dignity for many. It aligns perfectly with our shared mission to uplift the Zongo.”

The meeting also touched on environmental sustainability, with both parties expressing a desire to incorporate green energy into their development projects. Ambassador Salamu disclosed that the Afro-Arab Group is actively transitioning toward renewable energy and invited the Gibrine Group to consider similar moves. He stressed that integrating solar and other clean energy technologies would reduce long-term costs while protecting the environment.

“At Afro-Arab, we’re already greening our operations,” he said. “I see room for collaboration in solar energy, waste-to-power, and water conservation. We can set an example for responsible corporate leadership.”

Mentorship and youth support were also major topics of discussion. Both CEOs emphasized the importance of identifying and nurturing promising talents from Zongo communities, especially in fields like entrepreneurship, engineering, and health.

Alhaji Gibrine and Ambassador Salamu agreed to jointly organize forums that will bring together successful professionals and aspiring youth from Zongos. These events would serve as a platform for networking, inspiration, and skill transfer. They acknowledged that while progress has been made in female empowerment, efforts must also extend to supporting young men.

“We have done well in uplifting our girls, and we will continue,” Ambassador Salamu noted. “But our boys also need us. Many are lost to the streets and crime because they lack guidance. We must strike a balance—empowerment should be for all.”

Also present at the meeting was Dickson Boadi, Head of Media and Publicity for the Afro-Arab Group, who described the dialogue as one of the most promising private sector engagements for grassroots transformation in recent times. He emphasized that the partnership between Gibrine Group and Afro-Arab Group could become a model for others.

“What we’ve witnessed today is not just collaboration; it’s vision in action,” Boadi said. “Two brilliant minds with a passion for their roots are coming together to change the narrative. It’s the beginning of something extraordinary.”

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to maintain close communication and implement joint initiatives in the near future. Among the proposed follow-up actions are collaborative real estate ventures, joint green energy pilots, and the launch of a mentorship and empowerment summit for Zongo youth before the end of the year.

As the leaders exchanged farewells, there was a deep sense of purpose and mutual respect. What began as a simple courtesy visit had grown into a powerful commitment to build a better future—one where business success translates into social good, and where Ghana’s Zongo communities can finally receive the support and opportunities they deserve.

This alliance between Alhaji Gibrine Issah Tutu and Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu signals a turning point—not only for the communities they serve but also for the broader private sector’s role in sustainable, people-centered development.
