Davido’s Cousin Tunji Adeleke Recounts Ibiza Nightclub Ordeal: “I Was Almost Choked to Death”

Tunji Adeleke, the Chairman of Osun State Local Government Service Commission and cousin to Afrobeats superstar Davido, has broken his silence following a traumatic encounter at Hi Ibiza, a popular nightclub on the Spanish island. According to Tunji, the experience was the closest he has ever come to death.

The shocking revelation comes just hours after Davido himself accused the club’s security team of attempting to kill him and members of his entourage during what was meant to be a celebratory outing. The team had travelled to Ibiza to mark the after-wedding celebration of Davido’s long-time manager, Asa Asika.

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, June 22, Tunji shared a chilling account of the incident, claiming he was nearly suffocated during the chaos that unfolded at the venue.

“All because my brother Asa wanted to do a nice after-wedding celebration with friends and family? @hiibizaofficial security almost just k*lled me! Almost choked me to death. My life flashed before my eyes!!! Closest I’ve been!!! God!!!” he posted.

A Celebration Gone Wrong

What was meant to be a fun-filled night to celebrate Asa Asika’s recent wedding turned into a nightmare. Davido, Tunji Adeleke, celebrity businessman Cubana Chiefpriest, and other close friends had flown to Ibiza to continue the celebration in style.

Leading up to the incident, photos and videos of the group enjoying luxurious yacht rides, beachside dinners, and exclusive parties were shared across social media. The mood was one of happiness and excitement—until things turned ugly at Hi Ibiza, one of the island’s most prestigious clubs.

According to early reports, tensions flared between members of Davido’s team and the club’s security over what insiders say may have been a disagreement concerning access to a VIP area or personal space violations.

While no official report from the club has confirmed what sparked the conflict, eyewitnesses say the situation escalated rapidly and turned violent.

Davido: “They Tried to Kill Me and My Team”

On Sunday morning, Davido also took to Instagram to call out the club’s management, accusing Hi Ibiza security of brutality. His Instagram story featured photos of some of the guards who allegedly confronted him and his team.

“@hiibizaofficial security just tried to kill me and my team!!! All of y’all goin down!!!” he wrote.

The DMW boss, known for his global hit songs like “Fall” and “FEM,” expressed outrage over the treatment his team received, stating that they were unjustly targeted and manhandled.

In another post, Davido hinted at pursuing justice through legal channels, saying, “We will not let this slide.”

Fans, fellow celebrities, and international followers have since expressed concern and condemnation, with many using hashtags such as #JusticeForDavido and #HiIbizaAssault to demand an official explanation from the club.

“My Life Flashed Before My Eyes” – Tunji’s Trauma

Tunji Adeleke’s personal account has added a new, emotional layer to the developing story. His testimony—describing the fear of near-death—has drawn widespread sympathy and reignited the conversation around the safety and fair treatment of African celebrities abroad.

“It felt like the world stopped for a second,” a source close to the family told AfricaLiveNews. “Tunji is a public official. For him to say he nearly died in a foreign club is terrifying. This wasn’t just a bar scuffle. It could have gone very wrong.”

The source added that both Davido and Tunji were shaken by the incident and have since reached out to their legal teams to explore options for redress.

Hi Ibiza Remains Silent

As of press time, Hi Ibiza has not issued any official statement addressing the incident. All attempts by AfricaLiveNews to reach the club’s management have gone unanswered. Spanish authorities have also not confirmed whether a police report has been filed regarding the altercation.

However, growing media attention and social pressure are likely to prompt a formal response in the coming days.

International entertainment journalist, Clara Moreno, speaking on a Spanish morning show on Monday, said, “This is a big PR crisis for Hi Ibiza. Davido is not just any celebrity—he’s a global music icon. If these claims are true, there could be serious diplomatic and legal consequences.”

Diplomatic Concerns and Public Reaction

The incident has also sparked diplomatic concerns, with many Nigerians urging the country’s embassy in Spain to intervene. Several public figures and commentators have called on Nigerian foreign missions to protect the rights and safety of their citizens abroad—especially high-profile individuals like Davido who contribute significantly to the country’s global image.

A Twitter user wrote, “This is why African governments need to protect their own. Davido and his team should not be brutalized in Europe without consequences.”

Another stated, “If Spanish security can do this to a governor’s son and an international artist, what would they do to everyday Africans?”

What Comes Next?

With emotions running high and public pressure mounting, all eyes are now on the Spanish authorities and Hi Ibiza nightclub to provide clarity and accountability. Legal experts suggest that if evidence of assault emerges—especially involving a public official like Tunji Adeleke—it could lead to criminal charges, civil suits, or even diplomatic responses.

Meanwhile, Davido and his team are reportedly back at their resort in Ibiza, keeping a low profile while deciding their next course of action. Tunji has not posted further updates since his initial outcry.

Fans across the world continue to send messages of support, hoping that justice will be served and that the incident does not overshadow what was meant to be a joyful celebration.
