Nigerian DJ Association Bans Burna Boy Songs After Alleged Assault Incident

The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary ban on all music by Nigerian superstar Burna Boy from its members’ playlists, following an alleged assault involving popular DJ, DJ Tunez.

The decision, which was made public on Wednesday, comes in response to reports that DJ Tunez was physically attacked by Burna Boy and members of his team during an event in Lagos. The incident is said to have taken place on Monday evening at Obi’s House, a well-known weekly Afrobeats gathering that attracts top industry personalities and music lovers.

According to multiple reports circulating online, the confrontation allegedly began after DJ Tunez played songs by Wizkid and did not include Burna Boy’s tracks during his set. This reportedly triggered a reaction that escalated into a physical altercation.

A viral video from the scene has since intensified public attention on the matter. The footage, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, appears to show DJ Tunez being beaten and kicked while on the ground. The disturbing visuals have sparked widespread reactions, with many expressing concern over safety within the entertainment space, while others have called for calm and a thorough investigation.

In an official statement shared via Instagram, the Nigerian DJ Association strongly condemned the incident and confirmed its decision to delist Burna Boy’s music from all affiliated DJs’ playlists pending further review.

“Burna Boy music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice,” the statement read.

“Our team will carry out a proper investigation into the incident that happened to one of our own, DJ Tunez.”

The association also used the opportunity to address broader concerns within the music industry, urging DJs and artists alike to maintain professionalism and mutual respect at events.

“We urge DJs in Nigeria as a whole to be vigilant and to remain respectful to any individual, male or female artist, at their various events,” the statement added.

The development has generated intense debate within the Nigerian entertainment industry, with stakeholders weighing in on issues of artist-DJ relationships, respect, and safety at public events. While some have backed the NDJ’s decision as a necessary step to protect its members, others believe that due process should be allowed to take its course before any firm conclusions are drawn.

Burna Boy, one of Africa’s most globally recognized music figures, has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report. Similarly, DJ Tunez has yet to issue an official statement detailing his account of the incident.

The situation continues to evolve as fans and industry observers await further clarification. The Nigerian DJ Association has indicated that its ongoing investigation will guide any future actions regarding the matter.

This incident has also reignited conversations about conduct and accountability within the entertainment ecosystem, particularly in high-pressure environments where artists, DJs, and fans interact closely.

As discussions continue, many are calling for a more structured approach to conflict resolution in the industry, emphasizing the need for professionalism, security, and respect across all levels of engagement.
