AIG Zone 5 Assures Residents Of Tight Security During Eid-El-Kabir Celebration

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, has assured residents of Delta and Edo States of adequate security arrangements ahead of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

According to a Police press release issued on May 27, 2026, the AIG has ordered a massive deployment of Police personnel across worship centres, highways, motor parks, critical infrastructure, linking roads, exit routes and other strategic locations within the Zone.

The statement explained that the move forms part of directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at ensuring public safety and protection at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres and other vulnerable areas during the festive period.

The AIG directed Commissioners of Police in Delta and Edo States to intensify visibility policing, crowd control measures and anti-crime operations to guarantee a peaceful celebration and protect lives and property.

“As part of efforts put in place to guarantee a hitch-free celebration, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police has directed the Commissioners of Police of Delta and Edo State Police Commands to ensure visibility policing, crowd control and implementation of robust Anti-crime prevention and control strategies in their respective commands,” the statement said.

The Police also disclosed that security would be strengthened on highways, entry and exit points, city centres and other strategic locations across the two states.

The AIG further acknowledged the expected increase in vehicular movement during the Sallah festivities and subsequently ordered the deployment of officers for traffic control duties to ease congestion on major roads.

He also warned officers and personnel deployed for the exercise to remain professional in the discharge of their lawful duties.

In the statement, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba extended Eid-El-Kabir greetings to the Muslim Ummah and residents within the Zone, wishing them a peaceful and joyous celebration.

He additionally urged members of the public, especially travellers and road users, to cooperate with Police personnel stationed at various checkpoints and duty posts.

The AIG further encouraged residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest Police station.

Extends felicitations to Muslim Ummah…

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, comprising Delta and Edo State Police Command, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, psc has ordered massive deployment of Police personnel to worship centres, critical infrastructures, highways, motor parks, linking/exit routes as well as strategic and vulnerable points across the Zone.

This is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to all Commissioners of Police across State Commands and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to ensure public safety and security at EID Prayer grounds, recreational centres and other vulnerable points.

As part of efforts put in place to guarantee a hitch-free celebration, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police has directed the Commissioners of Police of Delta and Edo State Police Commands to ensure visibility policing, crowd control and implementation of robust Anti-crime prevention and control strategies in their respective commands to ensure adequate security of lives and properties. They are to strengthen security in the entire linking roads, entry and exit points, highways, city centres and other strategic locations in their areas of responsibility.

The AIG also felicitates and rejoices with all Muslim faithfuls throughout the Zone and wishes them a joyous and peaceful Eid-El-Adha celebration.

The AIG is also mindful of the increase in volume of traffic occasioned by the Sallah celebration and has therefore ordered massive deployment of Police personnel for traffic control duties with a view to easing traffic congestion during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration. He further warned Policemen to be professional in the discharge of their lawful duties.

Additionally, the AIG implores members of the public, especially travelers and other road users to cooperate with Police personnel deployed on the highways and other duty posts across the Zone.

Finally, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, once again wishes the Muslim ummah and other residents in the Zone a happy Eid-El-Kabir celebration. He enjoins them to be security conscious, vigilant and to report any incidents, suspicious persons or movements observed within their neighborhood to the nearest Police station.
