The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced that the 40th edition of National Farmers’ Day will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region. This annual event is a key celebration to honor the immense contributions of Ghana’s farmers and fishermen to the economy and food security.
This year’s theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” reflects Ghana’s commitment to integrating climate-conscious practices into its agricultural sector, addressing the ongoing and rising challenges posed by climate change.
To further celebrate and support Ghanaian agriculture, the Ministry has also organized Agrifest Ghana 2024, a five-day National Agricultural Fair running from November 4 to November 8. Agrifest will serve as a platform to showcase Ghana’s agricultural achievements, bringing together farmers, stakeholders, and innovators from across the country to foster knowledge exchange and promote advancements in the sector.
On November 8, the National Farmers’ Day celebrations will conclude with a prestigious awards ceremony where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will present honors to Ghana’s most exceptional farmers. Sixteen awards will be given, including the Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer. These awards spotlight the essential role of farmers in bolstering the nation’s agricultural growth and food security.
The Ministry emphasized that this year’s National Farmers’ Day also serves as a vital platform to promote best practices in sustainable agriculture, encouraging farmers to adapt to environmental changes and adopt resilient farming methods. This shift of the event to November, traditionally held in December, is due to the upcoming 2024 general elections.
