The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has announced the party’s commitment to prioritizing the construction and reconstruction of market facilities to enhance trading activities if elected. This initiative seeks to address the needs of women, who make up a significant portion of Ghana’s trading community, by providing better business environments. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that supporting women in business aligns with the NDC’s overarching plan to launch a Women’s Development Bank, a major policy focus designed to empower women entrepreneurs across the country.
On a recent three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reassured women traders of the NDC’s intent to prioritize their economic needs. She visited key locations, including Asankare in the Asante Akim South Constituency, where she addressed traders and other community members. During her speech, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored the importance of economic growth driven by women, asserting that their empowerment is integral to Ghana’s overall development. She encouraged the women to support the NDC, emphasizing that the party’s vision aligns with building a stronger economic foundation for the country through women-centered initiatives.
She noted that progress in market infrastructure was essential, adding, “We vote for development projects, and if progress isn’t being made, it’s time to consider a change. We should support a party that prioritizes development—this is why voting for the NDC is the right choice.” Highlighting the NDC’s track record, she pointed to the Kejetia Market, a significant development project under the NDC’s administration, as evidence of the party’s dedication to infrastructure improvements that directly benefit traders.
Throughout her tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reinforced the NDC’s focus on fostering economic stability and growth through policies designed to improve trading conditions. In meetings with the public in Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains, and at stops in the Juaben and Ejisu Constituencies, she shared the NDC’s vision for Ghana’s future. She encouraged voters to back the NDC in the upcoming December elections, outlining how the party’s policies aim to lift individuals and communities through targeted development and infrastructure investments.
Her campaign visit also received commendation from local leaders, including Nana Bediatuo Ofori Amanfo I, the Kyidomhene of Asankare.
He expressed admiration for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s approach, commending her for conducting a respectful and dignified campaign. He highlighted her restraint from engaging in political insults, viewing it as a positive example for other leaders and parties.
