Bawumia Highlights Job Creation Success of Akufo-Addo Government

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate for Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently emphasized the achievements of the Akufo-Addo government in job creation, declaring that they have set a record in the Fourth Republic. Citing data from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and other sources, Dr. Bawumia claimed that the current administration has facilitated the creation of approximately 2.6 million jobs since 2017, demonstrating a substantial commitment to building a resilient economy.

According to the breakdown Dr. Bawumia provided, about 1.4 million of these jobs have been created within the private sector, while around 1.2 million positions were generated in the public sector. This job creation effort, he contended, surpasses the achievements of previous administrations, marking a new high for employment opportunities in Ghana. He attributed these numbers to the government’s focused strategy on economic empowerment, particularly targeting the private sector to fuel national development.

Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the economic difficulties the nation is currently facing, noting that the challenges are significant but not insurmountable. In his view, Ghana’s journey towards sustainable economic growth has seen notable progress under the Akufo-Addo administration, thanks to a robust job creation policy. He reassured Ghanaians of his dedication to further expanding employment opportunities, especially for the youth, if he is elected in the upcoming December elections. Reflecting on his commitment to this cause, Dr. Bawumia expressed a deep understanding of the importance of creating jobs for a stable and prosperous future for the country.

During a recent Engagement with the Youth event held in Accra on November 3, Dr. Bawumia addressed a large audience, articulating his vision for Ghana’s economic transformation. He emphasized that the government’s approach to employment generation is not only about numbers but also about creating opportunities that translate into real-life impacts for families and communities across the country. His remarks aimed to inspire confidence among the youth, who form a substantial portion of the population and are essential to the nation’s workforce.

“We have done a remarkable job in creating jobs in the last seven years, indeed so far, as of yesterday or a day before… I checked the data from SSNIT and other sources, and so far, between 2017 and 2024, the latest data is that we have created 2.6 million jobs. 1.4 in the private sector and 1.2 in the public sector,” Dr. Bawumia said. He underscored that these numbers highlight the highest job creation efforts by any government in the Fourth Republic, underscoring the administration’s determination to address unemployment in the nation.

Dr. Bawumia also recognized the ongoing need for employment, particularly for the youth who continue to face challenges in finding jobs. “We have more to do because we still have high unemployment. Our youth still need jobs,” he remarked, acknowledging that unemployment remains a pressing issue, and pledging to maintain job creation as a key priority in his administration’s agenda.

Highlighting his vision for the future, Dr. Bawumia shared his intention to bolster job creation efforts across diverse sectors if elected. His message resonated with attendees, many of whom expressed hope for increased job opportunities under his leadership. Dr. Bawumia’s focus on private sector-led growth aligns with his broader economic agenda, which aims to attract investments, foster entrepreneurship, and stimulate local industries as a foundation for sustainable job creation.

As the December elections draw closer, Dr. Bawumia’s message of continuity and expansion in job creation forms a central component of his campaign. With Ghana’s unemployment rate a significant concern, his assurance to tackle this challenge directly has garnered attention, particularly among young voters. Dr. Bawumia’s emphasis on employment is not only a response to the current economic situation but also a reflection of the long-term vision he has for Ghana’s economic development.

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks in Accra were received with enthusiasm by the audience, as he conveyed his unwavering belief in Ghana’s potential for growth. He argued that with the right leadership, the economy can continue to expand, providing more job opportunities and improving living standards for all Ghanaians. He also took the opportunity to outline his plans for continued collaboration with private sector stakeholders to foster an environment conducive to business growth and innovation, ultimately leading to greater employment opportunities.

For Dr. Bawumia, Ghana’s job creation efforts represent more than just statistical achievements; they embody a commitment to empowering citizens, reducing poverty, and creating a stable economic environment. He attributed the administration’s success in job creation to its pragmatic policies and a collaborative approach with private enterprises, which he believes have been instrumental in driving Ghana’s economic growth.

In closing, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his resolve to address unemployment and enhance the economic well-being of Ghanaians if elected. His commitment to tackling youth unemployment, specifically, underscores his focus on preparing the country’s younger generation to be active contributors to Ghana’s economic future. The upcoming election presents an opportunity for Ghanaians to choose a leader dedicated to expanding the nation’s employment landscape and building a robust economy capable of withstanding global challenges.

Through his recent engagement with the youth, Dr. Bawumia sought to assure the public that he remains focused on job creation as a path to national prosperity. His message highlighted the successes of the past seven years and his plans for the future, leaving many hopeful that Ghana’s job market will continue to grow and offer new possibilities under his leadership.
