National Ambulance Service and GBC Collaborate on Free Health Screening for 20th Anniversary

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the National Ambulance Service (NAS), in partnership with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has launched a free health screening initiative aimed at benefiting both their staff and the general public. This health screening drive underscores the commitment of the NAS to promoting public health and ensuring that individuals are aware of their health status.

Dr. Foster Ansong Bridjan, the Director of Operations for the National Ambulance Service, emphasized the importance of this initiative as a part of their corporate social responsibility. “As we mark our 20th anniversary, it is our duty to contribute to the well-being of the community by organizing this health screening exercise. It allows individuals to understand their health status and take necessary actions for improvement,” Dr. Bridjan stated.

The health screening program offered a range of essential services including eye tests, blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, and Hepatitis B tests. This comprehensive approach aimed to provide a thorough assessment of individuals’ health and ensure early detection of potential health issues. The initiative reflects the NAS’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and raising awareness about preventive health measures.

Akushika Acquaye, Acting Director of Television at GBC, highlighted the significance of the screening exercise, noting that such free health services are invaluable. “Providing free health screenings is one of the most important gifts we can offer to help people understand their health status. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and being in good health enables us to perform better in our daily lives,” she remarked.

Mrs. Stephanie Barka, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at GBC, who also participated in the screening, expressed her appreciation for the initiative. She praised the National Ambulance Service as a crucial component of Ghana’s health system and urged government and stakeholders to continue supporting their efforts. “The National Ambulance Service plays a vital role in our healthcare system. It is essential that we continue to support them and recognize their contributions to public health,” Mrs. Barka said.

The health screening initiative is part of a broader effort by the National Ambulance Service to address public health concerns and improve the overall health of the population. By providing these services, the NAS aims to empower individuals with knowledge about their health and encourage proactive management of health conditions.

The program’s success was evident in the enthusiastic participation from both GBC staff and members of the public. The free screenings provided an opportunity for many to access essential health services that might otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable. The initiative also served as a reminder of the importance of regular health check-ups and the role of preventive care in maintaining good health.

In addition to the health screenings, the anniversary celebrations included various activities and events aimed at raising awareness about the National Ambulance Service’s work and achievements over the past two decades. These activities highlighted the organization’s dedication to improving emergency medical services and its impact on the healthcare sector in Ghana.

As the National Ambulance Service continues to mark this significant milestone, the collaboration with GBC exemplifies the importance of partnerships in advancing public health. The success of this health screening campaign underscores the value of community engagement and the positive outcomes that can be achieved through collective efforts.

Overall, the initiative not only celebrated the 20-year journey of the National Ambulance Service but also reinforced the organization’s commitment to enhancing public health. By offering free health screenings and emphasizing the importance of health awareness, the NAS and GBC have set a precedent for future health outreach programs and demonstrated their dedication to serving the community.
